Oh, I think I'm screwed up a bit about what Kanno did...now that you mention Origa, I seem to remember it was her that did most of the singing. Kanno was the composer, you're right. But either way, this stuff is awesome. Particularly good are the soundtracks from GITS 2 Innocence.

The last Shadow Puppets - Age of the Understatement : http://www.theageoftheunderstatement.com/

As I could guess, it's a song in which Alex Turner finally becomes the most self-indulgent twat on earth. According to the NME, the other guy, Miles Kane, is the 'brilliant' frontman of The Rascals. Except he can't be that brilliant as his band toured with the Monkeys but are still not signed to anything.

The album COULD be better, however I'm not holding out hope. From reading NMEs' pages, though, it looks like this is going to get a VERY FAIR AND UNBIASED review (*cough*).

I think you're being a bit harsh, it's a good song. The Rascals are ok, too, they rip off later-Strokes shamelessly but they're more original than most throwaway 'indie' like the Pigeon Detectives. Miles is a great guitarist.

@ your Nick Cave comment, if you like his new one you should find some that were recorded during his heroin addiction, they're much better, though the new one is magnificent!

Anyone else noticee what is wrong with this (aside from the fact it allows you to buy it).

I can't see anything apart from the fact it's labelled as 'explicit,' which considering it has one usage of the 'f' word (born rebel, mr. blunt) is pretty apt I suppose.

He swears in it?! How the fuck does he fit that in to a song compromised of "you're beautiful ad nauseum i'm going to barf".

But on a lighter note, caught Foals over the weekend. Gotta love catchy lil' songs like theirs. Plus the guy's a good dancer.

Just bought MGMT too and can recommend it as it seems to have a bit more depth than Klaxons.

Yeah MGMT are great, I got an import of their album last month on 12" and it's lovely. I was gonna see them last week (it's why I couldn't go to Gary Numan) but I forgot to go. I mean I literally just forgot to go.

Actually, I got a free download code for the album with the 12" if anyone wants it?

We Are Scientists (Hmm...Might be a grower?)
Long Blondes (Did not expect this, but good all the same- at least CSC won't say they're ripping off The Pretenders now!)
Mystery Jets (More goodness...Not enough craziness though Frown )

Lately I've gone back and started listening to A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step". It's so fucking epic, I seriously get close to arousal :Smug: Same with Acid Bath (though I've not got a whole album just a mix CD of their stuff. they're so hard to find in record stores around here.)

A few days ago I was typing dirty words into music search engines and found this band called Goblin Cock. Decent stuff.

I enjoy the familarity of the group of music I already listen to.
I'm too lazy to look up more music and spend time learning it.

Just found Parallel Lines on vinyl in my loft. Currently playing whilst my girlfriend questions my sexuality Undecided

I know its pretty well known to be popular with gays but, Debbie Harry guys.

Edit: Oh fuck, any idea if this is still running?

What's wrong with listening to Debbie Harry? Parallel Lines is a great album!!! And Debbie Harry back in the day was quite the leading lady.

...oh.....I see what you mean!

Though having said that my dad used to have it on vinyl too, so if my dad had it then it must be good (though he also had Animals on vinyl too....but I think he picked it up very cheap and didn't really like it anyway).

I recently found leaks to the new R.E.M. (which I shall buy when I have any money to buy it with) and the new Fall which I haven't listened to yet.

I haven't listened to the Fall's new one yet either. I was meant to go see them at the Welly tonight but my mum wants me to stay in for Easter Monday dinner. A bit annoying, it's the smallest venue ever + they're one of the most influential bands ever. It's not even sold out. Crazy!

They were in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and I really wanted to go see, but everyone I asked just seemed to have this blank expression...you know that 'I'm sorry but I don't know who The Fall are, but tell me when Bloc Party are playing!' kind of expression =/.

Luckily what was a disastrous night was compensated for somewhat by seeing an excellent production of Franz Kafka's 'Metamorphosis' (adaptation obviously), with music composed by none other than those cheeky chaps Nick Cave and Warren Ellis! And a little Nick Cave song at the end too (original one). If only they'd release this music officially.

EDIT: Also I put on 'Born To Run' for the first time in aaaaaaaaages this morning; I'd forgotten how completely incredible it is. Puts all his other albums to shame.

There's some half-decent stuff in there (I like Joanna Newsom) but you need to expand your horizons a little!! =) You make listening to new music sound like a chore >_<. I certainly wouldn't want to read the same books over and over and over, or watch the same television programmes over and over just as I wouldn't want to listen to the same albums over and over. Of course there are plenty of albums that make me do that, but there is so much excellent music out there that you'd be missing out on a lot of truly great stuff. I'm sure listening to the same handful of artists will eventually become a little tedious; you don't want to burn them out Grin. You should do like Maxy did and check out something like last.fm which has recommendations based on what you already listen to or from the resident indie pretentious crew.

I'm far too lazy to exert that much effort over music.
If I get bored, I'll look up something new.
But, usually, I'll just wait until my cousin introduces me to
something I like.
It's easier that way.

Joanna Newsom is good, though. Her voice is intoxicating.
That's the best way to describe it. I'll listen to her and be completely
absorbed into the song.

Sorry if every time I read this thread I just post what I'm listening to atm, but given that I hardly express a global preference of music (I'll listen to something that fits my mood at the time), it's perhaps the only way to go.

Dream Theater all the way. Prog rock is loud and interesting, especially through these bithcun' headphones. It sounds like I have two subwoofers on my ears on top of bi-amped speakers.

I listened to Dream Theater for the first time in yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsssssssssssss the other day, nostalgia trip. Was talking to a fellow guitarist so I was like 'look it's John Petrucci he can play fast.' I used to be incredibly into Dream Theater, but my taste has changed since then. Still love Opeth though, less than a month now until I go see them (along with Arch Enemy (yay), Devildriver (?), 3 Inches of Blood (???!!!).

Savy: I can kind of understand what you mean, because of the 'effort' it may take to discover new renaissance playwrights or something (lame example but...yeah), but on the other hand I don't because of my particular joys is discovering new artists, new music and everything. I love the poetry of Philip Larkin, but if I read Larkin exclusively I think I'd be doing myself a disservice (if only because I'd probably turn into a grumpy old man). I'm like Ricky, finding new artists and often having a desire to continue seeking out music by them.

I know what you mean about being so drawn into a song like that. There are relatively few songs that do that for me, so it's always rather special when I come across one. A lot of the stuff on the first Leonard Cohen album I find is like that, that's the example that comes to my head first.

CSC, devil driver sucks.

And finding new music is far from a chore. just put on an internet radio station and listen for a bit. they generally display the artist in the description. Winamp was great because there was like 3000 radio stations for all 500 of the genres they had listed, so if you didn't like the current song, just switch it to an new station.

Groove if you don't like something doesn't mean that it exactly sucks it just means that you have different tastes than someone who likes it. I personally like almost all kinds of music excluding a few things here and there.

Bach
Chopin
Beethoven
Pachelbel
Tartini

Hoorah for classical music.

Well I have no opinion either way really. I've heard a bit, it doesn't particularly float my boat, but then again I'm going to the gig for Opeth and Arch Enemy. I love my Swedish death metal.

On a similar note I've been listening to some Beethoven today. I'm a bit fussy with classical music but I like my Beethoven.

Rage, Metallica and Killers <-- FUCK

Well, The Killers are actually quite good live- and tend to play most of their first album anyway. Leeds is rarely about Main Stage headliners, though, but more secondary bands and Radio 1 headliners. No Arcade Fire or Interpol this year though Frown

No, it's a shame to be missing anyone like those two, though I thought Interpol were dull as anything last year. Arcade Fire were great though. Looking forward to Rage Against The Machine and the Manics, and to see Justice again :3 Surprised by Conor Oberst's presence there, and a bit pissed I'll be missing Babyshambles who - although I don't really like that much (Dirty Pretty Things fo' life etc.) - I would like to see. I much prefer Rage though so they win out.

My main question is what the fuck are Tenacious D doing there? I mean them being there is bad enough in itself, and the fact that a comedy duo is second headlining on the main stage takes the mick.

Not that the lineup even matters much in the end (silent disco oh yes) but y'know.

I'm a little mystified by the headliners, but if it were Rage, Metallica and the Killers headlining Download to me that would make more sense. Then Lostprophets, The Offspring and Kiss could have done a gig more respectful of their ability, such as a one-off performance at Butlins in Skegness.

I won't be going though I'd like to go one of these days (or years). There are sometimes some smashing bands on the smaller stages. Didn't The Hold Steady headline one of them last year?

Well there was tickets still available this morning, so I dunno if you can still get them.

According to the BBC, demand is down because of people going abroad and Eavis says its the weather.

Its neither, its because Glastonbury is now shit. My mate got kicked out for having weed in his tent- they had sniffers going around whilst everyone was at the stages. Its daft.

i think shit is a bit of stretch to be honest, it's the best festival i've been to, but as with all festivals it does have its downsides, like leeds being full of cunts and gatecrasher being full of chavs. i think it was more bad luck on his part.

That was my first thought actually!

Yeah, still not sold out yet and Eavis was making up all the excuses yesterday. 'Oh it's fine, just the weather that's all.' Blaming it on the weather...at least it's distinctly British! Jay-Z once made a solid long player or two, but now he is just Lay-Z (lolololololol). The only name of any repute I've heard tossed about for the Glastonbury lineup is Leonard Cohen, but even then do I really want to see a 73 year old who couldn't sing when he started making records and still can't sing? His last few albums were great but not exactly suited for live performance.

I was tempted to go for the Friday of that Wireless Festival thing which I know isn't a "real festival" but it has a smashing lineup thus far that day. The only problem is the tickets are about 40 quid, and I have about 40 pence.

Glasto looks like it has a pretty good 'nightlife' if not the best lineup, Leeds has a slightly better lineup and a load of stuff to do at night. I wouldn't want to go to a festival where you just go back to your tents and sleep after the bands.

Gatecrasher is full of chavs/cunts (interchangeable) which is a shame because it's possibly the best lineup I've ever seen, next to Bestival maybe.
