Inq RMXP Medieval Outdoors

Good day, RPG Town.

You may or may not know that I’ve been creating an alternative tileset series for RMXP. Well, here is my latest work: the medieval outdoors. This is a direct sequel to my medieval indoors & the world map tileset that you may have already seen.

Once upon a time I made the following statement:
“The next tileset on my list is an outdoors for this indoors. Again, it will probably be quite some time before I release it, but I promise you guys that it will be released. You can expect it to be pretty similar to this, especially since I’ll probably lifting a few tiles from here and moving them directly outdoors. If all goes well, it should be able to make villages, towns, cities, countryside, farmland, forests, mountains, mines, castles and docks (although no ships as of yet).”
Well, I kept my word in all respects. It has been some time since my last tileset (a year?). I started this tileset in 2005 but hated it, so began again in 2007. It is indeed very similar to the last and I did lift a few tiles from the indoor set. You can make towns, villages, cities, countryside, forests, mountains and castles! I hope I don’t disappoint.

Well, that’s enough jibber-jabber, here are the screenshots!

With a staggering 4176 tiles (including some repetition and padding), this is 2000 tiles MORE than the indoor set. This covers practically everything you’ll need for a game. As with the previous instalment, this tile set is far too large to display here, being well over 12,000 pixels tall and several MB large, so I will guide you once again to the download page. I’ve included a lengthier discussion on the set there, which you can read if you’re interested in such things.

Finally, I’ve got to reiterate the terms and conditions associated with this set. These tile sets are completely freeware. I do not expect any mention in anybody’s credits, nor do I require any other acknowledgement. It would be my joy to see these tiles used in a range of projects and that’s all I need in return. Of course, if you do release a project using them, I’d be delighted to know about it (us pixel artists love to know our work is appreciated), but that’s entirely up to you. However, I would ask that you do not attempt to take credit, in full or part, for my efforts; it would be awfully disappointing if someone tried to take credit they didn’t deserve. You may edit the sets until your heart’s content, but to claim they’re entirely your own work is a cardinal sin. That is all part and parcel of any graphics work, though, obviously.

Additionally, though, this chipset is exclusive to RPG Palace. As a staff member, I’ve worked hard on this resource for the purposes of improving my site and increasing its prestige in the community in whatever ways are available to me. It shouldn’t be inconvenient to anyone to visit RPG Palace to download the resource. This also includes edits you may do to the set; this doesn't excuse you for hosting it elsewhere! I'm happy for add-ons to be released on your own site, however.

You can grab the set on RPG Palace, of course. Keep checking the site for more updates.

Enjoy. Smile ©

Inq you have really out-done yourself. Because of this I'm seriously contemplating not using the sweet RTP edits I have. Which is a big decision to me because I really like them (except lately I've started to get mad at them).

Man, this is some sweet work you did here. The only thing I am dissapointed in was that there is no 'snow' additions to here. Perhaps a later addition? I'd do it myself if I didn't suck. But great job once again!

Question:

Did you mean to not include those two doors? The outhouse one isn't that important, but the other one is sweet. In fact the one that you have included I can't even find it anywhere in your map.

Alright, so I'm thinking of trying to add some snow to some of these chips in the tileset. Now, what I would end up doing is just adding white pixels here and there. Does anyone with any experience at all have any suggestions to give me heh?

The Inq has made once again another amazing tileset.

Well done Inq. You always seem to make the best tilesets. You are a RPG Sprite Master.

Now to have a look at it

Really top-notch. I've been checking every day since it was announced and it doesn't disappoint. This is definitely what I need for my game. Heartbreaking to hear there won't be a dungeon tileset too, but fair enough! What a star.

Impossible man. Smile Never happy, always criticising!

I just threw the charactersets in at the last minute, which is why they're kind of shoddily done and, in the case of the waterfall, missing stuff. I forgot to make the grey stone cliff version for example. I just threw a couple of doors down for examples. I particularly wanted to make an outhouse, so that's the only reason I bothered with them.

Yes, Download my world map tileset, look at the snow auto-tile, the ice tiles and the snowy roofs on buildings. That'll give you a suitable bunch of of snow shades and how to texture snow. As for there being no snow on the tileset, snow would be done with a completely separate tileset made specifically for snow covered towns, high mountain peaks and what not.

Never say never. Just won't be for a while.

What about the door? And yes, I should be paid. Sticking Out Tongue I don't seem to get any proper job offers though. But then again, I don't really put myself out there for the time being.

Your tilesets are the biggest pain in my arse! Everytime I think I caught you out you do something about it. But hey, cool set, might edit a few bits for my own indulgence, and secret love affair with learning other peoples tricks of the trade >:3

What? That's news to me. In my .rar file that was uploaded, there were two door files; "Doors" and "Doors2". There should be 5 doors overall.

Well they aren't mine, I didn't edit them. If I had, then I would surely submit them, but I can't.

Anyway yeah there is only "Doors2" in the zip last I saw. And it only has one door on it (I'm assuming "Doors" has 4, then 4 and 1 make 5 duh). Before I left on Sunday I was using the tileset to make the starting town for my game, a town which has basically haunted my dreams because I couldn't get it to look right and everything sucked ughuugh. But with your tileset it was actually fun Frown now my comp may or may not be destroyed forever~ Anyway yeah one of the Doors charsets was missing last I saw.

I was wondering if you could upload a demo of it with all the priorities and passables directions and all that done. If you have even done that though. Because I reaaaallllly can't be bothered setting 4176 tiles.

Anywhoo great work Smile

How the heck do I install this... the transparity colour is messed up and even if I edit it so it's the SAME colour as the NORMAL trans colour it just keeps making white boxes where it should be transparent... if you get me...

Help?

Argh! Someone should send this to all users...

Do NOT save it straight to your game's graphics folder! Import it to your game, via the resources handler. That way, you can set the transparency!

EDIT: By the way guys, if you re-download it, Inq has included the other doorset. So, yeah.

I basically just joined this forum to post a huge thank you and comment on how beautiful this looks. All of your work is absolutely top notch! Can we expect anything more like a desert or anything? But if not, this is far better than the plain old RTP and does cover a whole load of imagination. Wonderful set and keep up the good work! Laugh

Even if you upload the demo, can't you only use the pre-set passabilities etc with that demo. I doubt that you'd be able to import those tilesets into an already existing project right? I am probably wrong but curious as to the step by step of this method.

They're ALL there in the file. The problem is that it's listed as ONLY the exterior - a mistake by Myo (or whatever he wants to be called now... holloway?), no doubt. Sticking Out Tongue

The problem also is that it's just the tileset data, which is kinda sucky, as if you just want to extract that for copy/paste, you have to create a new project and import Inq's maps, then copy the tileset data, THEN copy it from the menu, THEN paste it into the project you're using them in. Unless of course you're starting from scratch, and don't care if it ruins anything.
