Rpgmaker VX
# Successor to the Tsukuru/Maker series.
# Far more developed tileset/autotiles system
# New, more chibi-ish graphical style.
# Slated for release this December... IN JAPAN!
# Costs approx. 100USD, give or take
# No news on English release

# World map tilesets
# Still contains Ruby/RGSS
# Still includes ME, etc.

# Shift key Dash/Run
# Now runs at 60FPS, as opposed to 30FPS
# "Simple Event Edit" Function, which helps create chests, doors, etc.
# Inn events again
# That auto-dungeon feature from 2k3, i believe.

System Requirements:

Recommended:
XP/Vista
Pentium 4 2GHz
RAM 512MB
HDD with extra storage for custom content
Broadband connection

Now, for my translation of the info from watch.impress. Keep in mind this is babelfished, and then reworded for sense by me, or otherwise just rewritten using all the information available.

“RPG Tsukuru/Maker VX”

Requiring NO PROGRAMMING KNOWLEDGE, this up-to-date instalment of the RPG creation software “RPG Maker” series is a tool like no other for creating original RPGs.

Similar to former RPG Maker titles, you lay out ‘tiles’ from the tileset, creating a map, you can create the protagonists, the monsters, OTHERWORLDLY CREATURES, items and magic, etc. Then you just use the event editor and you have created an RPG!

In addition, included with RMVX is artwork/battlers, map tile/chipsets, and sprite sheets for characters; also included is BGM and SFX to add ambience to your RPG. By using the included RTP, you do not have to worry if you can’t draw the art yourself, you can get straight into production of your game!

As for compatible graphic formats: PNG files as default (in 32 bit colour), as well as JPGs [although from a technical standpoint, these are not very good].

Compatible sound files include: MIDI, OggVorbis, WMA, MP3 and the WAV file. However, MIDIs can only be used as Back Ground Music and Music Effects.

And as for the game which you designed, which can even be played on the PC of other people, the “compress game data” function which can be done through Internet [I believe this may actually be talking about the site where you could upload the projects], or can be mounted onto CD-R, DVD, etc. Transfer and Transmit! It is permitted to sell your game as shareware.

With this most up to date version, you can find many former aspects utilised in previous titles, and some new ones, whilst kept in a simple UI than even a new user can understand. In addition, many features have been improved or reworked, including:

Features.

Auto-tiles Functionality
The auto-tiles, which form their shape automatically, are now far more effective, with more possibilities. There are also many, many more auto-tiles included in the RTP than ever before. Even a beginner can achieve a natural looking map..

Face Graphics
Formerly, with RMXP to have face graphics, you had to use custom scripts. This time, however, in a similar way to RM2k3, face graphic implementation is included in the event editor

Brand New RTP

In addition to the new face graphics, all the map, character and monster graphics are brand new! [the original wording might suggest that some characters, such as Arshes, may have found his way into the new style]

Font Modification
You can easily change the font of the status menu, and message windows easily [possibly in game, from the wording] in the "Ume font" Modifier.

Dash/Run Button

During game play, pressing shift makes the protagonist run.

Increased Frame rate
Whilst RMXP ran at 30 Frames Per Second, in VX we have upped this to 60FPS, meaning animations and movement look far smoother.

Options
With the previous title, you required scripting to have an in-game options menu, now it’s fully integrated from the start!

'For beginners' function
For the beginners, there is now a function that helps create character movement, treasure chests, and doors, [and possibly more]. The miscellaneous "Simple Event Edit" [this may be another function, unsure] can create events such as the inn at buttons 1, size [not sure what it means by this, perhaps resizing a sprite on screen?]. Simply by selecting a wall and a floor, the “John Don (maze)” a dungeon or room can be created easily.

I don't like the sprite size. They look like dwarfs.

Well I much prefer rm2k3 to rm2k so maybe I'll prefer this to rmxp omg lmao!

I like the sprites in that they're totally retro. The tilesets I'm not fond of, but I also dislike the RTP tilesets for rmxp with a passion so there's no change there. Is that character menu default? It would be nice to see that back again, imo.

Why don't they just call it 'RPG Maker Pokémon Edition' and be done with it? I'm confused as to who's making this, as I recognise the cog logo but I don't see the Enterbrain symbol. They could be the same, I'm not sure. At any rate it'll be interesting to see if they decided to release this outside of Japan. I think it would be a bit of a kick in the balls to legal English RMXP users though: 'thank you for paying $60, now buy our new one and keep up with the times'. It's been a while since RMXP came out in Japan but it's not been that long since its English translation right? Or have I lost all track of time...

2 years CSC.

And yeah, it looks pretty horrific. They best have added more RGSS capabilities in or it's not really much of a step forward tbh.

2 years doesn't really seem like a long time, really. I mean 2k3 came out 3 or so years after 2k. From a marketing standpoint, it seems like a pretty good time to release a new software because from what I've observed, a lot of people seem to be losing interest in XP. Now would be the perfect time to hype up a new one and get people to buy the thing.

Let's just hope they'll be quicker to translate an English version if they actually plan on releasing one, lest they want someone else to beat them to it and translate it illegally.

Sidenote, I think this version has the best RTP facesets made in any of the RM versions ever released. Other than that, everything looks like crap.

This looks like RPG Maker 95 (which, by the way, ran in 640x480 as well) because of the sprite style, tileset style, graphical style. Although, RM95 didn't have a good looking menu, really...

But yeah, this LOOKS like an upgrade of RM95, instead of an upgrade of RMXP.

Well the program is definite graphical let-down from what it seems but most of us don't use RTP graphics anyways to create our projects. If it is an upgrade to RMXP then I'm sure the will put in a lot of different ways to manage the graphics as in sizes etc and maybe even more formats. But these are just my speculations. I just hope that they compensate for those horrible chipset graphics by adding more features to the RGSS or the database itself. Anything really to increase functionality. But hey, screen shots are one thing. We gotta try this to make sure it's really as bad as it seems so far.

Ah RPG Maker 95. :') Where you could only have one charset and four chipsets for an entire game.

...

seriously how did I put up with that.

Well, the upside of those four chipsets was that you could use them all on the same map...

And one charset was pretty big...

But whatever. I think the downgrade with the graphics is an effort to make it easier for the average person to make their own custom graphics.

It's all wrong... What they SHOULD do is hire multiple spriters to do THEMES - EVERY theme available. Do over 500 sprites, 100 tilesets, 500 monsters, etc, etc, all with different themes - medieval, modern, futuristic, caveman-ic, everything. Then, using the RTP wouldn't be limited or bad in any way, and they could make it as detailed as they wanted. They could also release templates that could help spriters make their own shit.

Then, as a programmer, I wouldn't have to worry about graphics for my games. Smile

While this may be the XP versiom of 2k3 the features look great, now if only that could look a tad better of graphics wise. It looks almost like a pokemon game version character mixed with an rmxp. The detail work in some of it isn't great either.

You can't have everything....where would you put it?

I believe we'll be releasing an RMVX RTP on the Palace actually. And if I misunderstood Inq then I shall tell him now "We shall be doing so." Likely using the existing Inq tiles and bits and bobs, but should work out.

If thats true then, I would use this, because I just don't like those graphics. And to whoever suggested Enterbrain do themes, man thats genius, and they did do that for Rm2k I believe, but with only like 1 Future, rest normal.

Yeah, it'd be pretty awesome if we could get a seperate RTP unique to RPG Palace. After that, I probably won't have any complaints with this program if it does come with the said features and even more secret and delicious features that we don't know of yet like:

-Mind Scripting (Think of it and it shall be scripted.)

Ok, I'll just stop now.

When this comes out, they'd better not make a Standard Development Kit for it. I used the SDK for RPG Maker XP, and I had to go into a menu and back to refresh the screen so graphics would show up. Example:
If I had a health bar, you'd die when your health said it was full unless you go to the menu.
THAT'S WHY I USE RM2K3!!!!!!!!!!

But this'd be sick anyway, screw the SDK and all of its tiny leveret offsprings from hell. I'll just make some BETTER graphics and... VWALLLLLLLLLLLLA!! Sick game created. Hehehee...

Back when I attemtpted to create games I used rm2k3, and yes it does seem like it is taking a step backwards graphics wise, but it seems to take ont he look of your common gameboy advance rpg which may be the look they're going for considering users if ambitious could develpoe their games for such a system. But I'll stick to learning RMXP as it's new to me rather then wait for something else to come along.

I am an enigma
