I believe the lady on the left is Selphie from FF8, but it's been a while so I don't remember correctly.

It's not Selphie:
For some reason I have a vague hunch that she is a character from an anime series, though I wouldn't be able to tell you which one. Does remind me though that I need to replay FFVIII - you can download it in the Playstation store now, so for 8 quid I might go for that!

She reminds me of the girls from Magna Carta, a Playstation 2 game of which I would dearly enjoy acquiring in its splendorous Special Edition box set.

Hey Karl,
The girl on the right is indeed Edea from FF8, and the one on the left is Karin from Shadow Hearts II: Covenant. I made that banner about 3-4 years ago when I was just playing that game for the first (and only) time, so I was naturally influenced by its characters. Highly recommended

FF8 certainly isn't for everyone, even being the massive FF fan that I am I can easily admit that it's got its fair share of flaws and bad design choices, making it one of the weaker FFs in the main series. A great game nonetheless, but one that definitely requires a good amount of patience for.
SH2, on the other hand, is a brilliant and surprisingly mature game (especially for a JRPG) - I'm pretty disappointed in myself for only having played it once (and come to think of it, it wasn't 3-4 years ago - it was just when it came out 6 years ago). Go for it, I say

Hey Zeephos! Long time no see!
I can accept that FFVIII is one of the weaker games in the series, though as I've mentioned before I'm really fond of it in part because it was really the first RPG I played that made me fall in love with the genre (even though I was rubbish at it). I always fancied playing Shadow Hearts actually, though I never got round to it (I wasn't even aware there was a sequel!), though I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Ooh, nice to see you're still around CSC! Marked your 9th year on the Town yet? 
I've recently gotten back to RPGs myself, after having been away from the gaming scene altogether since my enlistment in 08' (excluding WoW, that is). Lately I've started playing FFIX again (my all-time favorite game as you might recall) and I'm totally feeling that old nostalgic love for the genre being renewed! It's probably one of the reasons why I suddenly remembered the Town as well...
And on that subject, a couple of days ago I also ordered FFXIII (had to loan a friend's PS3 for it as my 360 isn't region-compatible with that game), and even though it's gotten the weakest reviews ever for a main FF game, I'm absolutely looking forward to playing it! Has anyone gotten around to trying it yet?

I have a friend who has XIII. She says she's having problems with the battle system, but it's alright so far, otherwise. 'Sides that, I dunno much.

I currently own the first and fourth Shadow Heart games of the series, I am missing 2 and 3, obviously. I had only played the latest one, it was strange but was mature and had a great feel of modern and magic to it.

I didn't recall FF8 being that bad...
in my opinion it was somehow better than FF7 (in gameplay not story.)
well reminded me of my current situation in high school.
(especially on that part where squall goes mortal kombat on some random soldier)
The project still lives!

I wasn't fond of the Paycheck system, but selling materials from monsters was a decent remedy to that situation.
