RPG Palace is Moving

Consider this the official announcement: RPG Palace is converting software in a few days from IPB 2.1 to Drupal 6.19. This is more than just the forums; the entire site will be moved into Drupal, including existing news, tutorials, articles, and downloadable content.

Private messages will be lost. If you have any important information in your private messages, save it now.

Some users will need to re-upload avatars, though most avatars will transfer properly. Avatars on the new site must be under 160x160 in size; any existing avatars larger will not be imported (avatars which have been scaled down).

The entire process is expected to last about four hours. During that time, posting is allowed in the new shout box, on the IRC channel, and in a special group that will be deleted after the migration is finished.

If this works, then I shall consider this my last post on the old forums.

Nice knowing you old forum. I'm sorry, but the new forum has pie and cake. I have yet to figure out whether they are both lies or not however.

Nice going meustrus! Never actually knew this would eventually happen. O_o This is a hell of a milestone for you.

What, you thought all that work was for nothing? I'm considering the configuration done now, and am just debugging the import. I've got IPB>phpBB down pretty good, including several features I had to build myself (most of the bbcode conversion, avatars, polls) and I'm just dealing with a few issues with phpBB>Drupal, including the creation of an edit on every post by God on the migration date.

EDIT: Also, for future reference, it is extremely annoying that a) preg_replace can return NULL, and b) if you comment out a line in PHP that has ?> in it that part is parsed as the end of PHP code (but not if done with /* */, so inconsistent and annoying!). The first error caused about 50 posts to not have post text, and the other problem really hurt my attempts to fix the problem.

did step 1? (the update email adress thing)

oops forgot to add: is there an exact date now? or it's unknown but REEEAAALLL close?

You're fine if you posted after I migrated posts; if not, your email address may need to be updated.

I hope to do it today, if this test works.

EDIT: Hey guess what? You don't need to request a new password anymore, it should take your old password now. It involved forking an existing module, which could make things more complicated for future admins, but it should be alright. Also, after the migration, links to the old forums will point to the same topic in Drupal. Ain't that fancy?

I only now discovered that the IPB>phpBB part was not migrating the ID of topics which had been moved...so now I fixed that too. Why must I do nearly everything myself? I get the feeling that most people on the internet write crappy code that only does half the job. Let's see if that fixes the number of topics that Drupal can't find post information for...

So are you migrating as we speak? Because drupal-rpg-palace is down...
Oh, I also love the loading gif...

It's very nice

I'm testing (hopefully) one last time before the real deal. For the real deal, I'll start by disabling new user registration while I import users, then turn Drupal on and set it to the home page forever more. It will probably be 2-3 hours from that point on to get all topics posted; until then, no posting in forums, only in the Palisade group. Not to encourage any of you, but if you somehow manage to get 2500 Whuffie in that time period, you can make your own groups before the migration. After posts are fully imported you'll get credit for them.

Point values: 4 per reply, 0 per new topic, but 1 per view of topics, and 4 up or down per vote on your content. So, with only replies, it would take 625 posts to reach 2500 Whuffie.

0 per new topic...?
Maybe that should be a little higher?

Oh, and as for going mad with power, the only real permanent damage I can think of would be going into the core, under adminsistration and deleting everything there  (though I'm not sure if I can go there, I didn't click on it) or just banning every member and replacing all words in blogs, topics, signatures, and under adminstration with swear words, links to naughty websites, and then replacing avatars with naked women Laugh

EDIT: oh, and changing them to the other gender Sticking Out Tongue

Well. The migration appears complete I think.

Very good job well done Meustrus. Thanks much for making the site more epic.

Now I can overuse the pirate smiley and start my random rants on TC:SA and that evil zombie survival forum game of ultimate doom and I haven't planned out yet.

Edit: Double post, not use to the new stuff yet lol.

There sure is a lot going on with the site now, very complex, feels less user friendly to be frank, I know a lot of hard work must have gone in to it though.
