>( I got a mop in preparation for viewing your screenies but did not use it. I expect reimbursement. Those are the most generic screenshots I've seen in my lives!

Don't worry, Ynlraey, I'm mos def a rm2k3 user... now... and forever.

Yeah, sorry, Inquisitor told me to register here, and I did so when I had 5 minutes left of class.

Basically I'm just testing out that tileset and the overlay. I may use some pieces of that tileset when I work on a new one, as there are some tiles in there like the Cliffs (Which I didn't show) which I'm not too happy with. It's currently not in a game, though I could post one from my current project.

In fact, I will.

It's too wide so I'll just link to it. It's from my current project, Paradise Blue. It's the prison in the Castle basement. Obviously there's a way to escape if you happen to end up in Jail for some reason or another.

I'm sorry, I just read the British thread, so I'm in Brit accent mode right now, so if you're not British, add the appropriate accent to this sentence (if you are British, read like normal):

Wot in bloody hell? Is that a battle of TREES? Looks like the side on the right about to win, eh?

>.<

Dash it all, Mewsterus! Your British grammar is just not the Queen's. Firstly that is English, not British. The Scots, Welsh and Irish don't talk like that!

It is not IN bloody hell but THE bloody hell:
What the bloody hell?

Alternatively you can say
What in bloody hell's name?

We are not Canadians so we do not say "eh" but "quite!"

The Scottish translation would say "Aye stab ya ye bastad!", the Irish would ramble on it an incomprehensive drunken slur and the Welsh would simply spit at one, what.

Who says the union is going down the pan?

Oh, pish posh. I just know how to sound ENGLISH (since you're being such a nasty bugger about the distinction), not how to choose all of my words like one. Though, I doubt that my variable accent resonates all the way to the British Isles.

Some demo screens from my current project.

Because it's meant as a mini diversion, there's a 320 by 240 screen mode for a little window so you can play it while you are doing other things (like waiting for web pages to load or whatever).

[attachmentid=215]
First screenshot: title screen. I need a better arrow.
[attachmentid=212]
Second screenshot: fight screen. The battles in this game are actually puzzles (there is no chance involved): you have to select the best sequence of moves.
[attachmentid=213]
Third screenshot: minimap screen. The map has been randomly generated. Cursor keys highlight rooms or corridors and pressing the action key takes you there.
[attachmentid=214]
Fourth screenshot: walking around, with Line Of Sight. Your character can't see through walls. (The graphics for unseen map areas need some more work.)

That's the way I take a screenshot, when I want to show a full view of the map. Never heard complains over it before, so I don't understand what's wrong with it.

You really don't think that the black lines on the entire map are a bit distracting and annoying? To each his own I guess.

No, screw that. It looks bad, and is annoying.

Rmxp has an option in the "View" tab or whatever that says "Dim Other Layers". Uncheck that and go to any layer other than the event layer and you'll get the exact same effect without the stupid lines.

Dag-nabbit. BBJ beat me to it.

They look like solid maps to me. However, because I'm such a meanie, I'd say that the cliffs look a little dull when they aren't broken up in height occasionally. I don't see anything wrong with the maps though.

While we're ranting about the event layer, I'd like to point out that you can do the same thing in RM2k(3), except that instead of an option, if you're on upper or lower layer and use the boxcut tool, the screen no longer dims the other layer. Gets rid of the annoying lines in RM2k(3) as well.

I agree with Inq, although I also notice that on the second map, there seems to be an arbitrary cliff in the middle of the screen, between the three main gigantic trees.

My english sucks. Destino Desconhecido is my MMORPG. I've been planning and creating it since 2002.

Here's my newest map. I was testing the tileset with a 20x15 map so I kinda forced to put all those tihngs inside the map. xD

100% RTP. A mountain village. You can't see the whole village here.

This one is not finished yet. I'm going to put a FOG and some monsters arround there.

This one is not finished too.

Zhuge Liang, I was wondering if you would tell me where did you get that tileset. Sticking Out Tongue

I'd like to know what's your opinion about my maps cuz I'm trying to improve them. Maybe I'll bring my project here next week. I'll have to translate it's topic. xP

The second map. The water is flowing down the waterfall but there's no actual source. Other than that it's quite nice, if a bit plain.

Laugh

That actually made me chuckle lol... are you serious?

I can understand saying the mapping is bad simply because its ugly, or if you can walk over things you shouldn't be able to, or things that stick out like a sore thumb (like a house chimney under water).

I think it's a good idea to ask yourself how many people will say "WTF" to your post before you post it. I'm praying this population doesn't degrade into the behavior pattern other forums are exhibiting. You guys are like... the last bastion of common sense around as far as I'm concerned lol.

I hope nobody is offended, I said all of that with good intention. Smile

EDIT: I think the screens are nice. The only thing I can suggest is to toss in some events to spice it up. Maybe some birds, clouds, etc. to bring it to life.

Just testing Inquisitors new tileset. As you can see, Im not used to map with this type of tileset. I rather like to map with the RTP.

Point accepted. Maybe a nice animation to show it? No, that's going a bit far...

Sort of. I'm certainly guilty of it myself, and I'm not saying it must be done. I'm not really a nob about that sort of thing most of the time. If someone points it out you may as well go about changing it, even if hardly anyone would notice it otherwise. It's not much, but those people that do notice it will probably like the attentiveness to detail.

I'm thinking of using panoramas as maps for the outer graphics?

It's always good to do that. You can end up with some real neato results. I like your simple, straight to the point graphics. You'll get the job done in no time with your smart approach.

Finish the game with graphics of that quality THEN concentrate on adding detail. Way too many people do every last piece of art before even doing one level sometimes and by the time they're done, they're bored of the project.

Looks great, though.

Ha ha XD. Possibly the most horrible thing I've ever put together in paint. I couldn't take a full shot at the world map from Dragon Fantasy so I had to do it in sections and fit them in accordingly.

This is only above halfway of the world map
Don't worry, it's not all that big (and it's rather linear, to boot).

World Map

(I suggest you "Zoom in" or else it will look like a horrible mess.)

That was a nice world map design, though I doubt that you will be able to fill up all of it with any amateur project.

This was directed at me, right? o.O

Anyway, if it was then...it is already all filled up. well, not really, as not every piece of land will have something important to do. You begin in the north-west corner and then travel south, to the east and to the north-east. You can tell which are the main pieces of land because they are the biggest. There is still more to come, though!

I design the World Map according to how much stroy I have done =P

how do you get rid of the problem with the medieval tileset where no matter what you do any object placed on any layer will have the blueness around it appear.

Oh and what are all the things you need to send someone who has rpg xp for them to play it.

Oo, I don't understand your problem... .
Just import the Tileset with the Ressource Manager, or paste the tileset (with transparenc) into your Tilesetfolder.

Try not having the signpost coming off a tree. That looks very odd! The transparency issues are solved by importing - just select the colour you want to be transparent.

If anyone's having trouble with the tileset, try downloading it again. I updated the entire set. It includes all 5 doors as Inq originally planned, and transparencies are already set, though you should still use the import function just for habit. Additionally, the demo for the tileset includes Insane Cal's passabilities (with some heavy editing by me...)

Seriously, Cal, you have no concept of priority. Why did you set everything to *3?

I was about to post a screenshot but it's all RTP, and I think I'm going to convert to Inq's tilesets; there's so much more flexibility in them than the RTP. I just can't be bothered to set the passabilities myself.

Meusterus, I don't know if it's just me but I can't seem to be able to find the downloads when I click the 'games' link on the Palace...

edit - (scrap that, found it now, I was looking in the wrong place, day-um!)

I removed the entry in the "Games" section and placed the passabilities as demos for Inq's tilesets. You can download the demos from the same place that you get the actual tileset.

Cal, if you would please download some of those demos and fix any problems in the priorities, etc...send it to me, and I'll replace the files.

Quick question related to taking screen shots... I've been working on world map concepts for the MMO... the map is currently at 300 x 200... now I wanna see how it looks strung together before i refine it... is there an easy way to pull the entire map shot at once? or will i have to keep taking screenies and painting em together?

You just have to keep taking screenshots...but PLEASE do not do so on the event layer. Just turn off "Dim other layers" and take the shots from one of the regular layers.

One special thing I like to do to take large screenshots (and this works especially with LCD monitors) is to jack up the screen resolution to its highest setting first. What you do is you right click on the desktop, go to "Properties" and click the "Settings" tab. Now, click "Advanced." Click on the "Monitor" tab. Uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Nowclick "OK" and using the drop down menu on the left, set the screen resolution as high as you like. WARNING: You might screw up your display this way. If you do, DON'T DO ANYTHING and it should set itself back after 15 seconds (always use the "Apply" button instead of the "OK" button). You will probably have an insanely high display size that doesn't fit on your screen. Just use the mouse to "scroll" the screen.

And that way, you can take screenshots probably 4x faster because you have that much more screen space.

As for the map, I don't think it's choppy enough. There are islands, but they're all so close together...
