I'm having trouble downloading the chipsets from the link you gave, I think...
The files I'm getting only have like 6 tiles o.O ? Is it supposed to be like that? I don't feel like pasting more tiles together. I have enough work ahead of me as it is (...)

GTFO, Lemon man!

Most of them are Harry Potter chipsets, Z. There's a download link below each thumbnail. You just save them straight to your hard drive as normal.

I don't usually make my own graphics (as far as chipsets) from SCRATCH. I'm not sure why. I just far prefer editing them. Therefore there's plenty of alterations like the bus seats on the bus or adjusted mirrors in the bathrooms and the lockers in the school etc. etc. just because I'm being picky about the atmosphere I want in each location.

I'm going throw in a new screenshot while I'm here. I was going to wait to include it into my official TDS topic but the topic is a huge endeavour in itself so I'm putting it on hold until my final exams are done:

Here is a new and improved screenshot from the "Intense Convo System" I made a thread about many moons ago.

I've come to the grim realization that I'm going to probably have to redo my portraits so that they are much smaller and cel-shaded as to conform to the 48x48 256 colour restraints of rm2k3. -_-x Because right now they just look like blurry colourful birds ugh.

You lose points if you ask her the first option because she interprets your answer as taking an interest so she starts a tirade about her "suffering" over the past few years.
The second option you gain points because you own her good.
The last option you neither gain nor lose points. She talks about the origin of her name and gets all self-indulgent but doesn't go on a rant like she would in response to the first option.

EDIT: Oh thank you Nuno.

Ordinary screens, nothing really special, but I am progressing on my game.

First screen is the breakout menu, second screen is a battle, and third screen is just something from the "field."

It's looking lovely! Really hope you stick with it and it gets put to good use Smile. I was talking to someone over MSN and said it was very snessy, although unfortunately I didn't spot the awful pun until AFTER I pressed Enter XD.

Laugh That's actually my second attempt--my first attempt lagged "like a bitch in cold weather." This one doesn't lag, although it gives this weird effect when you move up and down, mostly at high angles. By the way, the system has built into it the ability to alter the angle of the camera, by altering the $pitch variable. It'll be a while though before I can make it work with events appearing in the correct location in relation to the map (invisible events won't matter, but it'll look really weird having NPC's walking around for a while)

By the way, I have to thank Fangha Giang. Whoever 'e is, 'e reverse engineered the Tilemap class, without which none of this would be possible. Although 'e screwed up on something that I ended up fixing...stupid hashes.

(EDIT: 'e is a neutral personal pronoun invented by the people at LRPGM, since he and she both end in 'e.' I don't know if Fanha is a masculine or feminine name Sticking Out Tongue)

EDIT again: Here's a pic of a development scene; I'm refining it, and getting some errors trying to achieve my specific goal.

The world really IS flat!

Anyways, I love Tiki's screenshot, a very impressive CBS. As for RPG Advocate's game, well hum, I could describe it as different of what we are used to see and looks also intersting wich is in my opinion very good. All you guys doing good work. Wink

Well, umm RMXP isn't very 3D SaW. I think it look good and all, but will it be 360 degrees navigatible. If you pull that off you are one hell of a coder.

Tiki: That looks like a rather nice CBS you have going there. The graphics you are using now seem pretty nice at the moment. Unless the poses are other people's hard work that you had permission to use or don't match your characters, I wouldn't see any problem in you using them as permanent graphics.

Advo: I take it that over the time of the gauge, the player has a chance to take in more oxygen. I can't help but thing that in that screenshot the character has only 16 seconds before he dies, yet I can't see many places he could go except try his luck through the door. Of course, he'd also have to dart over the spikes to reach it. Perhaps you could run us through how the dungeon works?

Mewsterus: Fantastic. Now, make sure you get the 360 degrees done and I'll help make it look nicer with some graphics! I'm not familiar with FF5's Mode 7, but I'm far more keen to see whatever is done in FF6. Code that. Smile

Wow, I thought I was keeping up to date with this thread but a lot of this stuff seems to have passed me by!

Tiki: The CBS looks smashing, and it's a great idea, combining the traditional with the tactical, which does seem to be somewhat neglected in the RPG Making world.

RPGAdvo: Looking wonderfully technical and innovative =D. I must confess though, like Inq, that I haven't much of a clue about what's going on the first shot XD. Looks lovely though.

mewsterus: Already confessed how much I like the idea of Mode07. Looking back at some earlier shots you can see jst how much the system's coming along. If you can get it 4-way, or even 8-way, it'll be extraordinarily impressive! It'll open up a new range of possibilities within the maker I think; Mode07 wasn't just used to world maps in RPGs as every good school boy knows!!

Beserker: It's looking really good! I love how neat and tidy it all seems, and the menu works well on the right-hand side of the screen. The class thing is looking rather interesting, and I love that party changer. Those shadowed out things are cute XD.

Myo: Looking nice! I think the charaset is a very good size, and it works very well. The lighting's definitely coming on a bit, and the map itself is really nice.

Myono, you're using events - character sets of lighting for the windows, right? That's exactly what I've been after recently. If you do pop them out to share once you're done, or if you can give me some basic advice on how to create something like that, it'd be really appreciated! I've been trying to describe the effect to people but noone's understood me *laughs*

Berserker, script is looking great. Smile I don't focus on 'em so much because I want to get everything else done, and introduce good scripts and whatnot at the end when there'll be more resources for battle systems and all... but it looks great. Smile

Its done using pictures in photoshop, then setting them as semi transparent.

Offline
Great TownieTownie

Hm, alright. Personally, I figure since there's a picture limit, and commands need to be entered to make them flicker... why not make them into a character set? Then you can place as many as you like, simply have the mild variation in each frame of the character set and get the charset to spin around. No other work necessary. It can still be semi-transparent, set to add or neg or whatnot.

My difficulty lies in making the effects semi-transparent in Photoshop in the right areas - Photoshop is really unintuitive for me, considering I'm used to MS Paint and Graphics Gale, it's a giant leap. Heh.

Huh, okay, so it's 50 pictures. lol. Smile So that's more than I'd need, right. Heh.

Hrm. Still, I like the character set idea. Nice and easy to place. But heck, a picture's good too, I guess. You can ensure a series of them side by side are not identical in how they fluctuate.

Is there a recommended color that the lighting effects should be? In Knight's Blade they're often grey, I've seen them elsewhere as green, and I just wondered why not plain white. I guess I don't understand exactly how the 'add' function thing works. If it adds colors, you'd think white would be just fine, yet instead people add grey, 'neg'. *scratches head*

(The tree shadow over the sky will be fixed)

A bit of progress on my new tileset. It'll be able to do more than just mountains and villages when I'm finished though. I'll soon move onto cities, forests, docks and castles. With the more stuff being added it is getting harder to use, but I'm sure any adventurous map maker would soon figure it all out.

Oh dear.

That's so beautiful.

I was just sticking with the outdoor tilesets from RTP before so I could match interiors, but now this is real motivation to create variations on your interior that are smaller (since larger tilesets lag the game, I hear, on slower PCs? Not something I've witnessed, but supposedly we want to cut them down in size per place they're used?)

And it gives me a lot of faith in what you could create for a desert tileset... have you got any sand to show at all yet? Nevermind the whole persian styled thing - the sands and the walls themselves, to even begin the canyons and all... deserts are so overlooked... and I have such a tale for sailing across the sands, I do!

I'm almost getting tempted to use RmXP. Meh, I'll make a game, or at least attemp to, once your graphic sets are complete enough to make a game (which is getting near, actually). Looking absolutely stunning though!

Just to keep this post a bit interesting, here's a screenie:

Well, there's this little shot of my third attempt at a window light character set. My first and second attempts weren't animated, and were awful. The third one is a placeholder for light falling through to one side. I haven't worked on sprites much before, so this is a learning experience. I just don't like using blobs of light as a picture. I'm working on simpler effects as well. It doesn't compare to Inq's effects, but one can imagine using lighting designed to fit his tileset, lighting which could be more than a round blob. I designed this after seeing lights here. It's at full brightness and all, so not actually from in game.

Actually, right, Inq - a query. Why the curved edges? I don't understand why not straight diagonal edges as well. It helps smooth out the cliffs over many curves, and not all cliffs have round corners. Had to design my own diagonal corners instead. Or perhaps you've got more edges in mind, they're just not in the screenies, perhaps.
