So do I have any takers? Not even a "I had a look and thought it was good/crap"?
I'm really eager to hear what anyone thinks!

Sorry, man. I've been a little distracted lately with other things going on. But most of it has been taken care of and I am downloading your project right now! Laugh

UPDATE: I self-destructed....stupid mirror. lol What was the purpose of that? I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to give it another try.

HA!
That mirror was just a little personal joke - when I first started with Rm2k, I had a really bad habit of making every single object "clickable". meaning that you pretty much got lost literally looking at everything just in case one of them was plot related. So yes, a self-destructing mirror - the only one of its kind in the entire game, I promise!
You noticed the timer, I'm sure - you have 10 seconds to find a switch that appears next to a bookcase in the red carpeted area to the South-East of the mirror.
It really is pointless, but if there's one thing I've noticed from watching people play is that the first thing they do is go and look in the mirror! You might say it's because you have explosive good looks....
Don't feel like you have to do the mirror thing every time, it's not plot related in the slightest.

I am currently downloading it, and might be able to give it a try tomorrow, since I am off work. I might give it a thorough run-down as I did with another game that was uploaded to this site.

I'll give this game a try too. Can't wait to try it out. Laugh
===edit===
I've played this for about 30 minutes and I gotta say that this is a pretty solid game. I've gotten all the way to a part of the game where you settle in a h.q. of a sort, and I've got the following to say about this game...

-Nice puzzles. Especially the scrambling staircases...that must've taken some serious event-input effort.

-No annoying over-spawn. In fact, I've only gotten in a fight 6 times...3 in the cave and 3 at the waterfall outposts. Makes for more time to focus on the puzzles and no banging my head over getting to fight something every 5 seconds!

-Ok storyline... could have more detail in it. It isn't bad or good either. It'll probably get better as I play on. I just got onto the good part...

-Battles are challenging...you are not overpowered in this game...so take caution. Adds to the gameplay.

I think this game is pretty good. Any other opinions on this game?

Thanks for the feedback!
As for the storyline, it is REALLY slow going until Act Two...
Once you get away from the first town, the world opens up to you.
One hint - the random battles are spread far and wide, but never run! Newts are the most common weak enemy and you get apples every time you beat them. Eating healthy keeps your energy up!
Stock up early in the game, before Act Two. You'll see why in the second half of Act Two!

I hope my attitude isn't reflected in my work...

I tried it, but because I'm not fond of the original RTP it's hard for me to put in an input other than I see the effort put into it and that there is a decent amount of difficulty put into the actual Dungeon Crawling aspect of the game. Which was already pointed out by Egg Dragon, so there's not much there for me to say.

So, because I don't like the style of a chipset my opinion is regarded as non-sufficient? If anyone should be disappointed, it should be me. I've used it before when fiddling around, and there's good things put in it, and the animations of the sprites are well-made (as it should be since it was originally made for the program), but the way it looks doesn't actually appeal to me, it's a matter of personal taste, nothing more.

I haven't had the chance to play very far along the game, the concept of the story was good, although from playing so many RPGs - them being my absolute favorite genre of game - I personally found the dialogue lacking, but not under-par for a first game, and would have enjoyed more development between the characters early on. As I've already pointed out, I haven't played very far, only a ways into the first real dungeon.

I liked the slight adventuring/puzzle aspect that was put into the game, such as getting the sap to fix the boat so it could go in deeper water, the switch puzzle, etc. It's fun to have things like that in an RPG to break the monotony of running around a set of hallways while getting random encounters.

The battles were fairly difficult, which made item management albeit a little hard to do at first, but it was manageable and made for some thinking when it came to going further into the dungeon. I don't think I got into fighting long enough to notice if there were any skills to be learned, but the Match Sticks were a nice touch, having attack items is fun and help spice things up.

Granted, I had a migraine when I was attempting to play it, which is most likely why I had to stop so early in the game, but all in all it's a solid game that should be played through at least once.

On a last note, you should expect all kinds of criticism, whether professional or personal, about any and all aspects of your work. You shouldn't get angry about something as little as me not liking the appearance of the RTP, I'm just one person, and what I've said should NOT have reflected upon the whole community. I can't say I'm not a little miffed about it, but I'm not at all angry or anything. I just want you to think about it first.

I like the game so far! It's pretty good.

The only problem I have so far is that there's not enough in the way of healing items or a place to restore HP. I've died so many times and had to reload, it's not even funny.

The caves were insane to navigate. That was epic. I actually had to pay attention instead of just wander aimlessly like I usually do. I liked the music for the caves as well. It was my favorite out of the RTP songs. The story so far is good. The maps are very well put together. The noise when you go across the bridge in the boat made me tip over while laughing.

That's true, I had difficulty moving forward fighting-wise, because of lack of healing items, or healing item potency for that matter. It's cool that the baskets of apples gave you a fair amount, but the fact that at that point the shops wouldn't sell you healing items bothered me a bit. I hadn't gotten too far in it though. I ought to try and finish it, if time allows me; there's other things that have my attention.

I actually rather doomed myself. I have no healing items and two HP...I'll probably have to start over...I don't want to start over. Oh Noes!

That's why you should do as I do and make a spare save game outside of a dungeon crawl. Saves you the trouble if you screw yourself over.

I humbly apologise for my rash response. I was just in a bad mood that day and I just delivered a really low blow.

As for battling in the game, RUN AWAY FROM THAT DAMNED SAPPER! That monster is there just to catch you off guard. There is no gain from battling this guy other than when you have to, or to gain EXP in a LATER dungeon.
Only battle Newts and get Apples every time. Stock up in the Waterfall area!
My best tip is don't leave the waterfall area until you are at least at Level 4.

Special skills come later, however don't expect one-hit kills every time from these.
There is a vast amount of strategy needed to survive the battles later on in the game, but if you never shy away from the Newts you will find yourself with a plethora of healthy food!

So, no battling with anything other than Newts until after you meet the second Party Member.

Now I caught mention of what exactly I wanted in the way of feedback...
The game is still very much just a DEMO, so I want you to try and beat my system - find shortcuts that shouldn't be, bugs in the events and anything that doesn't seem to work the way you think it should.

I agree that there needs to be more to do with your early character as the game is bland in these early stages.

Again, please accept my humble apology for my ridiculous posting earlier. I'm sorry that I took my bad attitude out on all of you. Truly, I am ashamed of myself!

Maybe a side-quest while going to town would help.

Edit: After the whole fiasco with the pillaging pirates, moving around the sea got me quite lost.

Thank you, that is a very valid point.
When I first made that part of the game where you got lost, there were only a handful of islands so it was easy to navigate. It was like that so you could get a glimpse of the world and what might come, but I can see how frustrating it must be not knowing where to go.
Technically speaking, it's the only island with anything on it that you can get to, as I have movement blocks on all the other islands.
Do you think it would be better if I just moved the ship cut-scene style, as there is no real need for exploration, or should I just move the destination island closer so it is easy to find?

Moving it cut-scene style would be better, seeing as most of the islands have something on them and it took me a while until I found one place which I believe might have been it, but I met with a monster that killed me in one blow because it was faster than I was. 13 damage to a character with only 7 Hit Points.

Yep, I tried to block the encounters on that island, as you're not even that character when you get there.
I've added a screenshot of the map showing which island you need to land on, however I'll get to work changing the game so the ship moves automatically and I'll update the download for arguments sake.

I've also decided to make Apples available to buy at the shop conveniently situated in your house. This ought to help with the problem of not having enough healing items when it comes time for battling.

Has anyone played the game to the end of the demo?
I have modified the game so the ship sails directly to the pirate hideout. My laptop crashed (again) and although that wasn't the computer my project is on, it was my only internet access. I am certain that I updated the download but I can't remember for sure.
If not, then from the island where you first take control of the ship, just go right about 50 blocks or so and then down to find the hideout pictured. It is right next to a snow covered island.

Is anyone even interested?

surely THAT's why nobody bothers!

I got my computer back from the shop not long ago...I recall downloading your game before said computer died, but everything was wiped from it. Of course, as soon as I got my computer back, I started resource hunting and pulling things together for my own game. Now that I've got a good bunch of things together, I'll give yours a look, however.

Also, some people really do put together games that are so punishing that you need to be either super patient or super talented, or a combination of both, to complete at any level. But yes. Back to the point. I'll take a look!

look. it's not that we don't like it or something like that

it's just the town has also many other issues. and don't expect to have loads and loads of people drooling
all over a project,(especially if there is no advance yet, sad to say)

sure it might go out with a bang but take note that many persons (including myself) have projects to
follow as well

if you'd like to have more persons follow in your project (or in your case support) you should

A) post your questions on game making support

B) Show some progress on your work. after all you don't expect to have only a damo playable in the end right?

P.S:

Sorry if this sounds harsh or offensive but thats something I'd do to stimulate awe and support on my demo

I played your game a while back, but couldn't figure out what to do at the begining, after going through the cave once, and to the post office. I was gonna finish, but I completely forgot!
As soon as I get some time (probably tomorow afternoon), I'll find it, and give it another shot! Laugh

people making constant "praise" is never "real" feedback...

real feedback is constructive criticism you can actually use to make your
game even better. you can start off by posting on "game making support"

post in the many doubts you have there and use the suggestions you recieve to make the most out of your game

and THAT is real feedback.
