Indeed, the reverse castle can be trying at times. I enjoy the 'treasure hunt' of finding all the items in order to get as close to game completion as possible.

I cannot remember my favorite areas, but I believe it would be the area in the Clock Tower portion of the original castle, once you've managed to run across the toppling bridges and enter the tower itself; the music is absolutely terrific, and doing battle with those enormous armored knights is definitely fun, especially if you manage to obtain the weapon from their second form; it's a large glowing blue 2-handed sword.

Also, there is another version of that sword which is thrown across the screen straight, and then spins back to your hand after a second. I cannot remember for the life of me which enemy drops it, but I believe it might be the Reverse Castle's version of the large Sword Knight's ghost form.

You should look around Gamestops (Or EB Games), possibly non-chain game stores for used PSPs. I will most likely be doing so.

On a side note, today I finally got Castlevania: Blood Moon in the mail, after over a month of waiting (which is the average waiting time). It's a hacked version of Castlevania 1 on the NES, and it's a physical copy with its own label on the cartridge. There are more of these on the site, as well as an enormous amount of Japanese-only released games that have been translated which you can buy. I have an extensive wish list (it was 69, but will now be pegged down at 68), and am aiming to obtain them all eventually. One by one of course, I do not wish to stress the creator out or mess up the orders.

As for ssbbfan4; although I have not played Resident Evil 5, Oblivion was a very wise choice.

And congratulations on getting the 100th post! Here's to another 100, I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. :3

in my opinion I still think RE4 is somehow better than RE5

it's like. RE5 is more massacre gunfights than exploration and story itself.

and well it's the only game I think to much realism ruined the gameplay value.

P.S: after making a killing on SOTN's library I have finally obtained. both the fist of tulkas

and crissaegrim (strongest sword in game)

Double P.S: The balloon-ish enemy that drops is is called schmoo. the blue armor dude is called a lion

Oh yeah, the schmoo! I remember that thing now.

I'm actually going to opt OUT of getting the Chrissaegrim this time around in favour of challenge. But in play-throughs of the past, I loved getting the Chrissaegrim and then two Rings of Varda from those big gold skeletons in the Colosseum I think? The stat increase is ridiculous.

Man, I missed this game so much. I'm so glad I ebay'd it.

I am intrigued by this "Castlevania Blood Moon" o.O I will look it up on "the Youtube".

I want to make an illustration for a t-shirt saying "What a terrible night for a curse..." in honour of Castlevania 2. But it's awkward because if I make it an homage to Castlevania 2, it's copyright infringement if I profit off it. So I might do a modern spin on it, or something.

There are many interesting weapons in that game, it's fun to obtain one and try it out. The Hadouken technique of the Fist of Tulkas I believe is a glowing blue fang-like upper cut.

Castlevania Blood Moon is harder, has a higher jump, and you can attack while moving, that's as much as I can tell from it, other than the completely changed maps and whatnot.

Also, when you press start, the game says 'Prepare to Die'.

I believe you should still get the Crissaegrim if only to get it as part of a full inventory for the game's completion.

I've beaten the third Ratchet and Clank game, and am now playing Ratchet: Deadlocked, it feels like a 3rd Person Shooter, and the two Combat Bots are fun to have, but leave something to be desired. Mainly, customizability. You can change their paint job, and later on I believe their head (which is in turn their CPU), but I would like them to be customizable in their arsenal similar to Ratchet, as well as setting boundaries as to what weapons to use when. It might sound like asking for much, but something similar was done in Final Fantasy 12 when you could set ground rules to what your characters would be able to do such as concentrating on healing the party if they reached 40% HP, attacking anything that targeted the party leader, etc.

I recently played halo reach's campaign mode all the way through, and I must say that the game was actually decent unlike its evil brothers halo 2 and 3, where you killed flood all day. The things that sucked the most about halo reach was the lack of dual-wielding (which enemy elites could do oddly...) and the final mission, which is just more of a pushover-minigame. Kat is such a sonofagun. Lips are Sealed She probably deserved to die the most out of the entire squad you're in.

I have TWO Crissaegrims now heh. I use them when I die and need to backtrack and I also used them against Galamoth. I think I'm almost done with the inverted castle but I have yet to find the Sword familiar this time around. How peculiar.

To be perfectly honest, I received a Sony PSP for Christmas. I basically asked for it so I could get Final Fantasy Dissidia/Duodecim and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Does anyone have any RPG or Strategy or RPG-Strategy or RPG-Action or Action-Strategy recommendations for me? It's greatly appreciated. Money-mouth

Ah, that familiar was difficult for me to get as well. I believe it is in either the inverted or normal castle's version of the Alchemy Laboratory, you need to strike at the ceilings. It is possibly in the same area that the secret stash of sub-weapons are. That is where I remember getting it.

I do have a Buying List for the PSP:

Brave Story: New Traveler

Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles [x]

Class of Heroes (it might be Clash)

Crimson Gem Saga

Final Fantasy 1 and 2

Final Fantasy Crisis Core

Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions

Half-Minute Hero

Jeanna D'arc

Lumines [x]

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony

Megaman Powered Up [x]

Patapon [x]

Phantasy Star Portable 2

Power Stone Collection [x]

Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? [x]

Star Ocean First Departure

Tales Of The World: Radiant Mythology

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth

The ones with [x] beside them aren't RPGs per say, but are good games for the PSP.

I myself have begun playing Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, and am enjoying it. It took me a while to figure out that I needed to use the abilities that make the main character play her Horn in order to fill up her musical note bar, so that I can then use those filled bars to unleash her baking goods attacks like the 'Pancake Attack'. A silly RPG but fun nonetheless.

Omg thanks for the list. Which game(s) one are you most stoked for?

The Sword Familiar was in Olrox's Quarters in the original castle, just before his chambers. You have to strike at the ceilings. It's pretty hidden/random, I didn't see ceiling discoloration or anything.

I've gotten two God's Garbs so far from the Guardians outside the big clock in the inverted castle. So that's cool. ...

And if I were to pick which games I would want first, it would be:

FF Crisis Core

FF Tactics: War of the Lions

Jeanne D'arc

Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero?

Star Ocean: First Departure

Also, I believe there is a PSP Disgeaia game called Disgeaia: Hour of Darkness (or Afternoon of Darkness, something among those lines)

Asthayanax, I'm going to be unabashedly honest with you. I've played Star Ocean, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness extensively on the Playstation. In your professional dentist's opinion, do you think it would be worth it for me to buy the re-releases?

I like the Final Fantasy re-hashes on the GBA and DS Sticking Out Tongue tee-hee.

It depends on whether or not you'd like to play them again, and if so, whether or not you'd like to play them 'on the go' or more comfortably. I did get Chrono Trigger for my DS, and am at about 2/3 of the game on it.

I would definitely like the Final Fantasy 3 and 4 remakes on the DS, the 3D models had me interested.

FFIII DS by experience I can tell you it's not good. it's on 3D yes... but they almost make no good use

of it.... plus it's the only FF where you CANNOT shop for phoenix downs.... you can only get them in chests

for a total of 50-60 (memory fails me) pr game file.

FFIV DS, ok this one learned from the it's predecesors mistakes and indeed, is worth playing again.

however unlike the GBA version it does not have the bonus dungeon Lunar Ruins. so no lightbringer for cecil XD

also unlike FFIII this one DOES have cutscenes.... (and you can play as a younger Golbez in a cutscene)

however they voice acting does need a bit more "feeling" (I lauged hard when I heard Cid's voice XD)

I shall make my own opinion of the games, everyone has very varying opinions and therefore it doesn't really help me in deciding, the limited amount of Phoenix Downs and not being able to buy them doesn't bother me, and the voice acting is much better in the Japanese version of the DS Final Fantasy 4 game.

I've beaten Ratchet: Deadlocked, and have installed Atlantica Online. I shall look for another game to beat, possibly Secret Agent Clank, and will be playing Atlantica on my laptop. I've been wanting to play this game, any game on a computer really, and so now that I've beaten another game I shall delve into it. I have roughly over 300 console games and rarely play them, and have beaten only a twentieth (15) of my collection so far. I'd like to remedy that a bit.

I've been a little busy as of recent with real-life concerns so haven't been playing as much as I should have liked. However, I downloaded The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom last week and have really been enjoying that. It's a relatively short quirky puzzly/platformy affair, but is utterly charming and very rewarding.

There are quite a few indie games actually that seem worth playing - moreso than a lot of full-price titles out currently!

Indeed, I have heard of that particular game, with positive reviews.

Here's another game you might enjoy, that you might actually ALL enjoy:

http://www.explodingrabbit.com/games/super-mario-bros-crossover

It is essentially Super Mario Bros. 1, but you can play as one of many iconic NES characters, such as:

Mario, Mega Man, Link (Zelda), Samus Aran (Metroid), Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden), Bill Rizer (Contra), Simon Belmont (Castlevania), and Sophia The 3rd (Blaster Master).

Not only that, but the creator is making more characters and upgrading the game; Ryu Hayabusa and Sophia the 3rd were added after the game was up and running, so we can expect new characters and mechanics.

Also, you can play it using a controller (such as a 360 controller) with the JoyToKey program. I also use this program to play RPG Maker games, which makes things much easier.

And gaming-wise, I've begun playing Atlantica Online, great game, I adore the combat mechanics. I've beaten Ratchet: Deadlocked, and began playing Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, but I've hit a point where I've decided to lay off the console games so I can enjoy myself on Atlantica.

Still going strong in Atlantica. My current team is based of my Sword Main in the front's middle, with a Swordsman on either side of him, with a shaman behind the left flank and a Gunner bringing up the rear.

And made a new file to see how many of one color I could jam together before it wouldn't let me make any more. I got up to 1005 before I gave up for the day. Laugh

I recently played all the way through Pikmin for Wii. Got all 30 parts in 20 days (in about a week of real time) and ended up with something like 800 pikim total at the end. I sort of feel like playing Pikmin 2 again, but after replaying the first one I stand by my opinion that the first was better.

I put money from selling my PS2 towards getting a Wii for Christmas. We have Pikmin for Wii. And I got all 30 parts in 30 days, here. Second playthrough. Have yet to play the second one, but I kinda want to...

The bomb rocks are the round rocks with reddish orange cracks on them. They're found in cans in the level you find the yellow Pikmin in. Toss a yellow to them and they'll pick them up...then you can chuck them at the wall. Just don't let the others get caught in the explosion...it's hilarious the first time, but gets kind of "NOT AGAIN!" after that. My sister cried when I did that. Then again, my first playthrough, I was rather....cavalier with the lives of my poor Pikmin. They'd do something I didn't want them to and I'd throw them to their deaths in water or fire. Worried

Isn't the lance of longinus a little...huge? Like, EVA sized? I don't think you have the space for it...

A general guide for the first Pikmin...in Forest of Hope, all colors work well, so try to get more yellows and blues with the dead creatures (have more of those color take them back to the onions). In Forest Navel, reds are your best friend all over because of the fiery blowhogs. They're really dangerous to any pikmin that aren't red. Also be sure to get the blues as fast as you can, because the next place is practically all blues. Also, if you're playing the Gamecube version, be careful about bomb rocks. Using the whistle causes inactive pikmin to drop bomb rocks, so if you have inactive ones you have to touch them to activate them without dropping the bomb. This is not a problem in the Wii version, although without that feature it's pretty much impossible to beat the last boss without casualties.

Why are they called casualties when you shouldn't be casual about them?

I don't like messing around with any of my consoles for anything other than games. People who think it's a good idea to jailbreak their Wii's are imbeciles, because it gets bricked afterward.

Sounds like a plan, though I don't even remember what most of that means, so it'll be re-experiencing the game if I start again.

I'd like to get a boxed copy of Paper Mario so I could beat that, because I'd like to do that before beating the Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube.

I thought the first two paper marios (nintendo and gamecube) were epic for their rpg-style fighting and witty humor. Smile

I loved part of the last boss sequence for the 1st paper mario. Twink totally owns that magikoopa. So much for your box-slinging powers knocking a bitty star dead. And "it" is a truly epic final boss...for crying out loud, "it" is huge and on blue fire! Laugh

The end-boss of thousand-year door was the hardest thing ever in a paper mario game ever. Died 3 times before I beat "it". -_-

The most recent paper mario on the wii was good, (better humor and more puzzling...puzzles. Had a decent story on that too.) but lacked variability in fighting as you mostly used jumping as a method of destroying almost ALL of your enemies. In fact, I was expecting a hell of a fight for the last boss, but all I had to do was jump "it"...repeatedly... =_= Even Count Bleck was harder to knock out than "it".

used the word "it" for anti-spoiler purposes... but trust me...even if I hinted who it was, you wouldn't see it coming...unless you've already beat the games. You can easily guess the end-boss to paper mario for the nintendo 64 however.

About hacking consoles, I proudly proclaim that my Wii runs Homebrew channel. It's not going to brick your console unless you do it wrong. Actually, there's more chance that an official Nintendo update will brick your console (like I believe the 3.5 update did for lots and lots of unhacked consoles, while those with hacked consoles quietly obtained new IOS outside of the official update so as not to run the same risk; ironic that the reason it bricked consoles is that it was trying to fight hackers but the hackers were the only ones not affected). I have also soft-modded an Xbox 1.6, which wasn't easy. Both consoles can run Linux, media players, and emulators, and the Wii has a thriving market for legitimate homebrew apps.

In other news, the private key used to sign PS3 applications has been determined and now the PS3 is wide open to all kinds of hackery.

Geez are we game twins or what? I've been playing this too......

I got it when it first came out IIRC, but stopped playing when I got to a certain boss. Picked it up recently, gave the boss a few more times and beat him. Here's the thing, there's a cutscene right after where I keep dying!?!? And there's no opportunity to save. The first time it happened, I was like ".................................." thinking it would be hard for me to beat the boss again. But now I can beat him without even getting hit.

That is strange. I had a lot of difficulty against the giant skeleton in the prison island, I ended up swinging around with the magnet aura, pin-cushioning him with daggers. It took a while, let me leave it at that.

I use emulators to play games I wouldn't be able to otherwise (stand-up arcades, Japan-only releases), as well as for recording.

I did manage to beat OoE I gotta say this game has probably some of the hardest bosses in my opinion.

(You better rescue the chef soon asth!)

hardest part is the hidden boss. my lv 75 Shanoa (743 HP)  takes about 450 DMG per hit

and the bastard can easily corner you.

WARNING: Once you defeat him instead of dying a "seal" is placed on his head

do NOT attack! or else the seal breaks and you gotta fight him again at full HP

(I learned this the hard way) also you can absorb his summoning glyph (for all you glyph collectors out there)

True, the crab boss is giving me trouble now. I need to grind for money to buy some potions. I managed to defeat his first stage by using the Torpor glyph (throwing gems that turn into yellow crystals) down onto him. I just need to figure out his next pattern. I would use my Dominus glyph but it drains HP.

which crab? the one in the lighthouse? well anyways here's a universal tip.

enemies that have shells or shields (such as crabs walking armor and certain skeletons)

are weak against your trusty hammer.

P.S: You're NOT supposed to use dominus (a certain dominus skill instantly kills you)

also it would be a very good idea to free as many citizens as you can

(I'm telling you all this because a year ago I managed to beat 100% of the game,)

DOUBLE P.S: As for your finacial issues. try this:

go to the level with the sunken ship (forgot it's name sorry, all I remember is the level is stormy)

one of the sunken ship's treasures should be a certain ring that boosts money drops

ok so get 2 of those rings and then find the glyph "inire pecunia"

then equip both rings AND cast "IP" and almost everything you destroy should drop $1000 moneybags

also like said before. rescue the chef. his food is less costly than potions and heals just as good.

(I always carry about 10 steaks when going to challenging areas)

As regards the homebrew issue is concerned, the best game I've played on the PSP is Day of the Tentacle Laugh. On the whole, I don't normally bother with 'hacking' machines, though; there's rarely enough incentive to do so (apart from ScummVM on the PSP, which was an excellent incentive) other than the pleasure one takes in tinkering with machines in this way.

I grabbed Mafia II off Steam in their New Year's Sale for a fiver, so I've been playing that. The story is every conceivable mobster cliché rolled into one, and it is relatively short, but it was very entertaining and the radio music was exemplary, if anachronistic (it was supposed to be '51 and Buddy Holly was on the radio...eh?). Certainly worth 5 pounds but I may have felt slightly underwhelmed if I'd paid full price for it, mainly due to its length.
