What game are you currently playing?

I've just begun playing a great RPG for the Nintendo, called Chronicles Of The Radia War. The battle mechanic reminds me of an 8-Bit cross-over of Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana, whereas the story-line gives me a Nausicaa: And The Valley Of The Wind feel. I like it.

What about you guys? Any games you've been playing lately? I wasn't able to get into ANY game playing of late, so I'm glad that I was able to find something I'd enjoy.

I am unfamiliar with that game. What kind is it, and what is it about?

oh well it's like dance dance revolution but for your fingers.

(this game was for the DS and is a phenomenom in japan)

here's an example

the PC version is somewhat better because you can edit any soundtrack into a

playable mode

Pretty interesting, I'd have to try it to figure out how the tapping works, because it looked like they were being hit after the target areas disappeared.

I do play Stepmania, which is similar, and is EXTREMELY customizable. I changed the entire layout with a pack that someone made, although apparently the person who made it doesn't like Stepmania players because they switched the usual helpful tips with derogatory comments essentially saying that you ought to know how to do everything already. But the backgrounds, music and buttons are nice now. :3

I used to be all into "Stepmania". My friend and I would let it play on the computer screen while we did the footwork accordingly (without the pads or anything, just imaginary) for DDR practice. Yep, pretty cool kids. ... That's how I mastered "Kick the Can" though.

Here are m'current games:

This little indie game called "Fallout: New Vegas" (on XBOX 360). When I first got Fallout 3 I wasn't that into it, to be perfectly and brutally, almost horrifically honest with you. But after I stopped dying constantly (I remember one death sequence vividly, a mole rat effortlessly pushed me off of a cliff with its tiny paw — so demeaning) I got really into it. And that feeling has been consistent while playing New Vegas, when it isn't freezing.

"Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies". Man these Dragon Quest games are sooo hilariously formulaic, but at the same time Dragon Quest started console RPGing so it's only right they adhere to their own standard. I don't play my DS very often but this is fun to play on the bus sometimes while I'm commuting. I love having lots of different kinds of equipment and having it all appear on the characters etc.

"Suikoden" Suikoden 2 was the first game I got for the PSX and turned out to be one of my all-time faves. I recently played it through again. I've completed all of the non-spin-off Suikodens except for 1, which just arrived in the mail yesterday. OK, I didn't complete 4. I actually did get to the last dungeon, despite that game being so crappy. Then I just didn't care anymore. God, that game was so lame. Anyway, you get bonuses in Suikoden 2 and 3 for carrying over Suikoden 1 save data so I will be looking forward to that boon!

Once I've acclimatized to PSX graphics through Suikoden, I should dust off Xenogears. I got it a couple years back but haven't played very far.

When I ordered Suikoden online, I also ordered "Castlevania Symphony of the Night" so that should be arriving any day. Love that game.

Hmm, I only have Suikoden 4 and 5, but I loved Suikoden 1. I also own Xenogears (but only the re-released version that has Square Enix on it instead of Squaresoft), and Symphony of the Night. The furthest I've gotten in Symphony of the Night was at 197.7% completion, to get the 206% I would have to have gotten every single item from the monsters. I did acquire some amazing weapons though.

SOTN was probably my best PS1 game.

as for the dissapearing circles on the video well it was on "hidden" mode

supposedly shows you the circles then hides them to make it harder.

an equivalent to hiding the arrows in stepmaina as they go to the bottom

"Phantasy Star 4" used to be one of my favourite games.

Now it is my most hated.

jk still like it. I started a new game a while ago but must have gotten distracted.

So everyone, I got Castlevania Symphony of the Night in the mail yesterday. But it hasn't worked so far Frown my ps2 is really old and ghetto. Eventually I'll probably break down and by a new slim PS2 for $100.

you can always try to use your PC to run SOTN

well A long time ago I playes Phantasy Star 2 3 & 4 (details nowadays are sketchy

as my cousin now has them)

and right now I'm playing the PC verion of Phnayasy Star Online

(a.k.a PSO Blue Burst) (Ultima Server) kinda clears out the story a bit

if you progress through single player online.

Ah, now I understand about that DS game, thank you. :3

I don't think I'm familiar with Echoes of Time. Also, I own a loose cartridge of Phantasy Star 4, but I would like a complete copy (with a cleaner looking cartridge than the one I currently have, for my collection). It is the only Phantasy Star game I've actually played for more than a half hour, and I've beaten it... twice I believe. I loved the characters, and for the Genesis, it had a decent soundtrack. Alys (or Alice?) was one of my favorite characters, and Chaz was a great character as well.

You should look at Pawn shops or indy game stores / hobby stores for a PS2 slim, they might have one for cheap, a great Pawn Shop near where I live sells the Slims for 40$ with a game to go with it of your choice. I got it for my little cousin's Christmas present, with Soul Calibur 3. :3

there was one thing I didn't really like about PS4. it was the somewhat sloppy battle system

(It took me sometimes minutes to make a strategic turn go by)

but then I eventually got used to it and well pretty good for sega genesis

I'm having a terrible time looking for a translated version of Record Of Lodoss War for the Super Nintendo.

When you get the hang of the macro system in PS4, you can take enemies and even bosses down in no time. I think I'm about 2/3 of the way into it already. Much more riveting than I remember. The cutscenes always manage to be an awesome touch.

Echoes of Time is based on the Crystal Bearers sub-series from FF, and came out on Wii and DS. It works like an amalgamation of Gauntlet, Kingdom Hearts, and Zelda; group-based action RPG style with puzzles scattered about. It's honestly very addicting and fun for not being a main game in the franchise.

Also, I was a bit influenced by the Happy Video Game Nerd's review of Sweet Home, so now I'm working through that. It's a genuinely creepy game, especially for being on the NES/Famicom... and is also extremely frustrating if you don't keep your wits up (or forget to save often).

I thought that game (warning: I'm referring to "Sweet Home") was pretty innovative. For example, those random events like when a chandelier is about to fall on you, or whatever. Since I like horror sh*t, and making RPGs, I've always wanted to make a game using "Sweet Home" as an influence.

Aren't practically all NES games genuinely creepy, though? I think it's mostly the heavy use of black. I swear the crudeness of the graphics makes it creepier somehow. The game "Monster Party" scared the sh*****t out of me as a kid. There's this one boss, a big breaded prawn... when I was a kid I thought it was a giant yellow sock and for some reason I was SOOO scared of it. I had nightmares about it all of the time. ... lmao, I don't know why the sock scared me as opposed to the, uh, vampires, mummies, medusa... all the crazy sh********t that's in that game.

EDIT: Is it really necessary to use the s-h-double hockey sticks word three times in one post? Not impressed with myself right now.

ok this is gonna sound real crazy but yes actually zatham it was because

of the over-use of "black" that I actually got scared over the Megaman 4 final boss

I mean it's only a big dark room. you see no floor , no walls no boss

and only every 1/4th of a second Wily appeared and dissapeared at will O.o

(I was 5 when I played this boss so yeah scary NES stuffs)

I forgot about the Macros, and aren't there certain spells you can cast in order to make combination attacks like Tribal something with Wat, Tsu and... I think Foi?

Echoes of Time sounds interesting to say the least, and I've downloaded Sweet Home as well as am watching a playthrough of it. I mostly downloaded it because I want to send it in to get reproduced as a real NES cartridge for my collection.

I keep hearing about Monster Party, I really ought to try it out.

Those 'real-time' events are rather unique, even though they're easily avoided. The only frustrations I've had is when the wood planks you put over the chasms give way to a character and they hang there until their death (unless you have the rope, which you don't get immediately) and early level grinding, which is very streamlined compared to other NES RPG titles, but some enemies do unforgiving amounts of damage, and you can only find a certain amount of tonics. I do like the "once-someone's-dead-they're-dead" premise, though, as inconvenient as it may sound. It's both a blessing and a curse no other game like this has been made.

The primitive graphics have a sort of charm, along with the text it relies on to make up for the system's limitations. You end up using your imagination more, and that's probably what makes cheap visuals more impacting. Especially certain scenes in Sweet Home.

Also, lol @ Monster Party. That game is in Bonkerstown. But I love it.

Yeah, you can do certain combinations of magic attacks, but it doesn't always work. It's a critical hit of sorts.

I recently found out about the guy who runs that whole reproduction operation. I'd really like to have a few titles on his list, but am currently too broke to go out and find the right donor carts, send it out, then pay the $25 for the other game. The label, new battery, and cleanup are a nice touch, though.

EDIT: Is it just me, or is quoting a mess for anybody else?

You appear to have done fine with the quotes in your post. I believe you only need to find donor carts for specific games, all others you can just pay for the game and it can take up to a month to get it but you ought to be fine.

Also, for the wooden planks, you do know that if you go next to the character who's falling and choose 'Team' in your Menu, that you pull them out of the hole right? It's how you usually save them, no rope needed. Same with the weird glue on the floors.

Also, if you can, only pick up the blue planks, not the red ones; the red ones break very easily whereas the blue ones are sturdy and will stay there a lot longer. Plus you can take it with you again after using it to get across. :3

Indeed? The person who I am currently watching do a playthrough has yet to finish I believe; he will be finishing it after Thanksgiving. I shall give my thoughts on it afterwards.

By the way, do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any suggestions as to what game I should try? Anything on older consoles like NES, SNES, etc. that I could use an emulator for would be fine, or even an RPG Maker 2003 game that you might have made.

I could make another thread with my own game selection and ask if you'd like to point out a great game from it (I've only played a few of them through, and some others that I've tried but only for a half hour roughly, to test it out).

I was going to ask "Well, what kind of games are you into?" then I remembered I'm on a forum called "RPG Town" I was like "ah, then nm."

...Have you played the classics? Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Lufia 2, Secret of Mana (I've never gotten too far in that one, embarrassing), Final Fantasy 5 & 6.... what else.... I will consult my games list when I get home. Non-RPG-wise, I really enjoyed "Gradius 3". I played it once while I was quite "stoned" and it tripped me the F*CK out. I can't remember which level it was but I was tripping balls, it was pretty funny.

Suikoden 1 is so frickin' ghetto, but I'm definitely enjoying it. I like playing prequels after the sequels and filling in all the gaps. Has anyone else here played it? I REALLY like the music.

Spoiler: Highlight to view
I assume this spoiler tag won't work so I just have some filler text her to further shield your eyes from spoilers. So, if you've played Suikoden 1, did anyone else find Odessa's death anti-climactic? In Suikoden 2 I knew Flik's gf died but I didn't think it happened in the first like hour of Suikoden 1. However, sometimes it's effective to kill off a character early and then develop them throughout the story through flashbacks, or their legacy in general. We'll see if this is the case. But I do like the idea of keeping her death under wraps to protect the morale of the liberation army, that's neat.

Spoiler: Highlight to view
imo

Hmm, well I have beaten Chrono Trigger (and am playing it on my DS, as my bathroom game. Too much info?), Earthbound and Mother 3 (I found the translation after much searching), I've done a full playthrough of Lufia 2 and beat it, all on Youtube, and I've beaten Secret of Mana (alone and with a friend), as well as Suikoden 1, but I have no access to it or to its sequel sadly.

I haven't had a chance to play Gradius 3 I believe, although I have played Parodius and all the different shoot 'em up game characters in one game is quite enjoyable. I do not partake in substances though.

What sort of RPG have you made Ravso? And if I might suggest one RPG that was made, I would suggest one that we have on the site, Legend Of The Philosopher's Stone. I did write an extensive review on it in one of the RPG Project sub-forums, and I for one GREATLY enjoyed it. It was quite a well-made game, even though it was just the first chapter in a three-part game series, which made it a little shorter than I would have liked.

Yargh. I didn't even know such games existed until I looked into this thread. What a vast world of goodies I have been missing out on. >:|

The only game I've really been playing right now is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion...

...

What?

I like causing trouble playing as the gray fox and my character simultaneously! (A mask you get in-game allows you to take the identity of a whole over person once you put it on. Wink )

@Asthayanax: His game was made in RMXP. If he modified the project to be "standalone," you won't even need the rtp or anything to play it. But not many people know of this method...so you might be outta luck.

I have three separate characters in Oblivion at the moment, my main adventurer who has at least 60+ hours on him, I use him as a treasure hunter mostly, he sneaks around (with Sneaking completely maxed out), using a bow to kill everything from afar, as well as wearing the full Knight of the Nine set. One great perk about it is that it makes all animals become friendly with you, but it doesn't stop them from trying to kill your horse. Damn them! Why are they always trying to kill my poor horse! She has done nothing wrong... -sniff-

My two others, a Breton Mage (who I use simply for relaxing, listening to the calming music of the game while walking along the riverbeds looking for herbs, enjoying the absolutely stunning landscape and skies while taking my time), and a Khajit Assassin, who I've gotten to join the Dark Brotherhood.

"What is the color of the night?"

They are definitely interesting. Actually, with my level 20-something Adventurer, I scoured through a Keep in the far east of the province, and I actually found a Dark Brotherhood hide-out. I found 10 Poisoned Apples, a Human Heart, a locked-away training room and base with Dark Brotherhood banners all over, and some Daedric gear. Quite a haul that day.

I've only got an level 28 argonian who is...the master of the thieves guild, listener of the dark brotherhood, master of the fighter's guild, expelled from the mage's guild, (a mission from the dark brotherhood requires you to murder a member of the mage's guild Lips are Sealed) grand champion of the arena, madgod of the shivering isles...

I could go on...but that'd get annoying. The Argonian is exactly like your main character; masterful in sneaking and marksman. The lower skills more often used involve blade or restoration. Since I have the cowl of the gray fox, I can practically play as two different characters with the same everything...which is quite useful for causing trouble. One gets the blame, and the other looks good.

I find it hilarious to sneak in front of a guard in broad daylight wearing the gray fox's cowl and not get seen. It's even funnier jumping across rooftops and shooting the poor civilians full of arrows below without any retaliation at all. (My sense of humor is quite insane, I know. XD)

All in all...my argonian's fame is 67 and infamy 61. The gray fox however, has well over 100 infamy and only 4 fame. Sticking Out Tongue (He got the fame by shutting down some oblivion gates. WHADDA HERO. You're still on the lam.)

I find it interesting you found another Dark Brotherhood hideout! I have only found one. The one you are assigned to for the Dark Brotherhood questline. Confused

I have played it, and beaten it, but on the SNES (emulator of course, since it wasn't released in North America at the time), I did play for a while on Anthology, but I would like to get the DS versions of all the older Final Fantasies, for the new 3D remakes and the new videos. Playing Final Fantasy IV, one of my favorites, in 3D similar to Final Fantasy IX, is definitely something I am looking forward to, but I will most likely wait until after Christmas before buying any new games. Other than Remakes online.

I don't remember much at the moment, but my Adventurer is a Nord, who specifies in Sneaking, Marksmanship, Security (a cinch if you did the Daedric quest to obtain the Skeleton Key), Heavy Armor (the best at Master, since all heavy armor worn gets its weight reduced by half), Blades, and Blocking (I'm a sword/shield user, but when I don't have to fight in the open I usually snipe my targets from corners and shadows).

I own Battlehorn Keep with all stuffed trophies, I also own Frostcrag Spire, am the Champion Of The Nine with my own Priory, which is inhabited by Knights of the Nine who've joined me as my own soldiers. And by the way, the last leg of the quest for the Knights of the Nine is fantastic, rushing into an Ayleid ruin with a dozen Knights of the Nine, fighting against hordes of magical warriors to get to the ancient Ayleid king... it was a terrific ending to that quest.

Whenever I walk around, people who see me - even people with a bad disposition like those cousin-kissers in Hackdirt, may the Nine burn them for eternity with their Ancient Ones - call me Sir Knight and fawn at my every move. It's different to say the least. Doing Nobility quests in the various towns is fun as well, I'm a Knight of the White Stallion as well as bearer of the Escutcheon of Chorrol.

There is soooooo much to do in the game, I sincerely doubt I would be able to TRULY finish it with all that it has to offer in replayability. I could go through the Shivering Isles now if I'd like, or go through Mehrune's Razor to obtain the amazing artifact weapon found therein, but I am thinking of doing that with my assassin, since he will be a dagger-wielding evil character.

Also, for upgrading Sneaking, I found the best way was to sneak into the first Ayleid ruin you find, right outside of the Sewers when you begin the game, and once you get to an area where there are six glowing blue switches with skeletons behind them, that you should sneak up to the bottom right button, push it, then sneak behind the right wall and just move around in circles. The skeleton will be outside and near enough where you can increase your Sneak skill simply by moving your character around. This will also make it so that when you choose your stats to increase at each level up, that your Agility will be at +5 to increase, but all other stats would only be at +1 if you only increased the Sneak skill.

To counteract this, and to make sure that you can cast decent spells and have a nice amount of Magicka, taking all ingredients, even rat meat and mort flesh as well as bonemeal with you to this point is a terrific idea, because with a Novice Mortar and Pestle you can make the lowest level of potions and increase your Alchemy, making your Intelligence stat increase nicely as well.

Well that was a lot to type, obviously I am a huge fan of the game. My apologies if this was too long to read and any of you decided to 'tl;dr' it.

O_o I see there's still much to be done in this game of infinite possibilities.

For the Shivering Isles questline....you might find it quite...ironically humorous. At least until a certain turning point in the questline. Sheogorath is the most notable character because he's so crazy, IT'S FUNNY Gasp

Because of the two different worlds in the the Shivering Isles, you're going to be met up with insanities and sadisms. (Dementia and Mania. Self-Explanatory Laugh) Enjoy Sticking Out Tongue

I need to do the Knights of the Nine quests next. Haven't even gotten around towards the pilgrimage yet. >_>

As for those people in Hackdirt...

I'm in bad position with those people. One of the final quests in the Thieves Guild involved taking their precious crystal ball from the blinded guys. Funny thing is, those blinded guys guard the elder scrolls in the secretive areas of the Imperial Palace. In fact, because they read the elder scrolls, they were blinded by it. THAT'S WHAT THEY GET FOR LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE...ish.

That reminds me. My Marksman is 98, and the master of marksman training has disappeared and never came back. I guess a bear ate her? So much for living in the wilderness.

Burned myself out on PS4, so I'm taking a break and starting on a few other games. I recently stumbled upon a site that had translated ROMs that I couldn't find when I was younger, so yeah. Delving into Romancing SaGa 3, Live a Live, Star Ocean, Gunman's Proof, and Sailor Moon: Another Story -- don't judge me (...Kevin).

actually Star ocean is real good once you get how the system works.

I also found a site with many translations to Japanese games. As well as a site where someone makes physical cartridges using translated Japanese ROMs as well as hacked versions of games made into completely new games such as Zelda: Outlands, Castlevania: Blood Moon, etc.

Another game I've found that you might like is Super Mario Bros. Crossover, which is Super Mario Bros. 1 that you can play with Mario, Mega Man, Samus Aran (Metroid), Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden), Bill Riggs (Contra), and Simon Belmont (Castlevania). It makes things quite interesting, and although it's a browser flash game, it's well made and you can use a controller to play it.

I'm a big "Romancing SaGa 3" fan. =^.^= I wish there was a better translation for it out.

It would be even more amazinger if a translation patch was developed for Romancing SaGa 2. But now I'm just dreamin' Sticking Out Tongue

I'm curious as to how those games play, I have a video of a song someone made themselves pertaining to Romancing Saga, it is quite good, and has to do with choosing the 'bad' or darker parts for the characters.

Enjoy.

Indeed!

I just watched the Scott Pilgrim film, I thoroughly enjoyed the second half, but I fast forwarded through most of the first half other than the fights and some less awkward moments. It was quite enjoyable and made me want to listen to music and play Rockband more. Once I get a Playstation 3 I shall definitely get the Scott Pilgrim game on PSN; it appears to be quite the beat-em-up.
