We can have whatever. Register a channel on any network, and I can configure the site client for it.

I've taken screenshots of the new site, with both the usual dark RPG Town AND an all-new RPG Town Lite color scheme! Let the excitement build!

Be aware that the Lite color scheme show an administrator logged in, and as such has more options. The Subscriptions block isn't one of those, it's just only enabled in that theme for now. It will be available to everyone.

Dark theme

Lite theme

As before, I also edited out the links under the banner for certain reasons. However, given the new bar at the top (sticks at the top of the page as you scroll down!), I'm wondering what purpose the links could have. That menu at the top uses the Drupal "simplemenu" module, which currently needs Javascript to run, so maybe some links could be copied there for people without Javascript enabled.

Hmm... I'm kinda moving towards "lite"

I would have gone with dark but it looked the same. hmm cant dark be mixed with another color?
well that's me only....

by the way what does inner circle mean?

I'm leaning toward the lite version, too. It feels more...professional, I guess. To me anyway.

I suppose I'm just more used to the existing color scheme. I intend for both of those themes to be available and user selectable, and I had hoped that the dark theme would be the default. Of course, this means we have to be careful in selecting text colors, because what is readable in a light skin is not readable in another. For this reason I think we should limit the use of [ color ] tags to a few predefined, like red or gray.

I'd be fine with that. Though I like the look of the lite version, I would most likely stick to the dark theme as I, too, am accustomed to it.

I think I'd be using the darker one aswell.
lol, egg only has 51 posts! Sticking Out Tongue
I gotta say mew, you've really outdone your self with this new website!
And a bar at the top that follows me! Gasp

We'll be the best rpg forum in the world!
MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Will Maxy still pay for the site once it's moved to drupal?
Or will we have to forge his signature..?

EDIT: hey meu, if you haven't already finished the download section, you said you were going to redesign it or something. Well here's a VERY nice download menu thing you could base it on. (mind you it's in german =P)

Eh, this is probably the most unique RM site in terms of colour scheme. At least keep it as an option, IMO.

I'm not sure how those points got calculated at this point. It may be the number of topics you've started, or maybe that number times 3, I'm not sure. I do know I'll recalculate the points as part of the transition.

I think that we should move away from post counts and towards the more comprehensive point system, which includes post count, topic views, and votes.

About smileys: It is easiest to import smileys from a phpBB OR Adium smiley pack. At this point we have an opportunity to introduce new smileys, and possibly replace the ones we have now. I leave it up to all of you to decide.

I'm a bit partial to these, but I don't know how well they would integrate with any others we wanted. There's also these, which seem to be what we had before.

well the new point system sounds so inovative so yeah I'd go for it.

also does the smiley thing mean we can add smileys of our own o just the pre-determined ones he re-vamp adds?

That first set of emoticons is painfully cute! I really hope we can use them.

The new boards are looking superb - they look quite 'modern' if you get me. I did wonder whether it might be time for an image overhaul/change in colour scheme to signify a new and improved town. However, I thought Daniel made an interesting point when suggesting that we've quite a unique and recognisable colour scheme - though it would be nice to have a 'fresh start' and create a new colour scheme, would it be as good?

I am not that great of a web designer, so if we want to deviate from what we've got then we'd need to bring in someone else who's better than I am. I'm not even confident about the Lite color scheme. It would undoubtedly look better with some more image backgrounds and such, but I am not competent to do more than I have already with Drupal. All I would need is a design drawn up in Photoshop or something and I could definitely code it.

this gave me an idea....

why not make a "skin the forum" contest? have users make custom forum palletes
and we vote for the most popular?

well it's an idea...

The riceball smilies are pretty cool! But there are a lot more of the others...however some of those look pretty childish. I vote for the riceballs!

First off to say...

Wow. Gasp You really put your back into this new website thing. Looking good.

I like the riceball smileys because they look pretty decent. They other smiley set does have a lot, but they all look very cartoon-ish and I really don't think we would be able to use all 330 or something of those...

I also really like R.A.V.S.O.'s idea of a skin the forum contest. It could ease the work you have to do on the site, while letting the users get what they want out of the contest because the users themselves could make the forum graphics to their liking! But, we would need specs on the image sizes to get the images to show up correctly on this website, and we would also need specs on how much memory the image can take, because I'm pretty sure many of the people around here would not like to load a 1.2 MB banner everytime they visit this forum... (You'd have to try pretty hard to make a banner image take that much memory space in the first place though, so maybe scratch that thought...)

I've also had experience in making website graphics, (is my website page a good enough example...I can't really tell. It's my first complete work for a drafted website, so I can't compare results.) so I'd love to give a swing at a forum skin contest.

The dark and lite themes you made for the site posted on page 8 of this thread looks pretty good as well. The new rounded corners and different fonts as well as the positioning of the many windows gives the site a very modern look compared to these rectangle boxes we have in the forums. Did you use CSS-rounded corners to gain the rounded corner effect?

The shoutbox at the far left is a pretty nice addition as well. It might be able to keep more members active as they could now post to each other in real-time rather than waiting to make forum posts in order to communicate.

I did use CSS border-radius to achieve rounded corners. This is not supported in IE, but it degrades gracefully.

The layout as a whole doesn't work in IE 6, but I don't think that's a problem. There aren't any grannies or corporate drones around here, so I don't think you will either.

Good news everybody! I've got polls importing correctly! Only the first poll in a topic is imported.

Also, I'm well on my way to getting avatars imported as well.

I'm waiting on a reply from Maxy before going ahead with the transition. Also, I'm trying to test my new modifications in a full import, but Drupal is a lot slower to import than phpBB. Once I'm sure that there will be no issues, I will go ahead with the transition. This is how it's likely to go:

  1. Forums will be closed to new registrations.
  2. Import users from IPB to phpBB to Drupal. This will take a little less than an hour.
  3. Forums will be closed to new posts. They will persist in the closed state after the migration is finished.
  4. Main site will be redirected to the Drupal installation. At this stage, registration is opened again and users can create new topics, but no old topics will exist yet. New topics will be restricted to one forum and all others will be closed.
  5. Begin import from IPB to phpBB. This stage takes about an hour.
  6. Begin import from phpBB to Drupal. This can take a whole day.
  7. New forum is at www.rpg-palace.com/forum/ and old forum persists at www.rpg-palace.com/forums/

After the forums are migrated, I will start an initiative to convert entries in the existing downloads system to the new system and attempt to convert things like tutorials and the Chronicles.[/]

Don't worry. Everything'll be fine. There may just be a day or two where the forums are down.

Right now, everyone will need to reset their password by "forgot my password" after the switch. There will be a day or two where existing topics can't be accessed, but I will allow posting in one forum during that time.

The main features we're losing are moderation features. We're also losing the ability to use multiple polls in one topic.

We're gaining a unified website, a comprehensive user group system, a shoutbox, and eventually a store. And hopefully, it will be harder for spambots to get in.

But... then what is the point of the spambot guild existing...?

Keep up the good work, and we're all looking forward to the switch!
What is going to be for sale in the store btw?

It's getting close to migration time. I want your opinion on these smileys. You may have seen some of them already, but this is all the ones in that package. I intend to move forward with this set; if there are any smileys that aren't covered (like  ) you can make a Riceball-themed version.

Also, while I'm on the subject, about badges (the squares under your avatar): I'm torn between whether to use books or liquor bottles. They'd both work equally well from a technical perspective, and are in one of TheInquisitor's tilesets (the interior). Or, if you want to be really vulgar, I could just use the latrine tile...

Those smileys are much more epic than the ones we already have. I probably won't have to use the smiley over and over again now.

But then again, I could always grab some off the internet if I'm feeling like it. O_o

As for the badges, I believe the books might be best because they depict knowledge.
MORE POSTS = MORE KNOWLEDGE?
Of course, that may be wrong sometimes.

In that case, we have beer bottles! Laugh

Looking forward to migration. Keep up your more-than-epic work.

Problems with file type caused by your avatar being served by a PHP file rather than an image file directly.
