Yes, they are a representation of the number of posts you've made, and there are titles for each block. I don't believe they have anything to do with your standing on the boards; the group you're in has that job.

They're the titles directly below your avatar - Seth is a "Super Townie" and I'm an "Über Townie" - if you use a custom title you don't see them anymore, though

I think you would have to upload music files to other sites; I think most music files other than perhaps MIDIs would exceed the capacity for attachments. You can always try, though. Keep in mind that you're not supposed to share copyrighted music files willy nilly, or the music police will be knocking on your door.
And theoretically you could just spam every thread in all forums other than the spam bin, and this would boost your post count, though I wouldn't actively encourage this! Ensure posts are at least partially relevant to the discussion inhand, please!
It would seem that if I take away my title, I am Grand Master Townie. Makes sense. Of course, I'm the one who put those titles together, so I should know what they are...
Also, I forgot that on the regular skin, the post count isn't normally visible. I think the highest rank is given at 2000 posts, and after that nothing more. Ah well. I think I'll make the v3 skin visible to everyone now that I know it's never going to be finished.
