Opinions wanted: RPG project for Xbox 360

I have a dilemma that I wanted to run past y'all here... I am in the process of resurrecting one of my RPG projects on the Xbox 360. However, I am unsure as to the visual style I want to do for it. I have three main options...

-I could go straight-up 2D. I would use Inquisitor's tilesets, and have someone draw character sprites. This is the easiest way but might make it look too "retro".

-I could go "2.5D" by using a modeling program to pre-render scenes, not unlike FF7. This would give me tons of freedom but also increases the workload considerably, and I will have to have a lot of models prepared for it.

-I could go full-on 3D. Obviously the hardest way, but might be the most visually impressive overall. I lack the skill to design models myself, so I would be completely reliant on someone else.

So... any thoughts on this?

[IMO speaking here]  I'd go for 2.5d, it's cool to have 3d but too much 3d can make it look over-complicated or overwhelming.... so I would have gone for 2.5d because you can keep it looking simple yet add some thrill if suddenly when the player least expects it turns semi-3D-ish

The project still lives!

Personally, I think going 2D is rad. A lot of people enjoy retro, and if you pull it off JUST RIGHT, it could very well be amazing.

A few games come to mind that seem retro and happened to be pretty successful: Infectionator, Half A Minute Hero, 60's to save the queen, Pixel Knight... Yeah. Especially the first two (because one is all about zombies, and the other is on the PSP)

I posted this on two other forums, and the overwhelming consensus seems to be "go 2D!"... so I reckon that's the path I will likely take. Thanks for your input, guys. Smile

Just be sure to give the 2D world some clean texture. People love that.
