My first game

Here are a few screen shots from the game I am making with RMXP. This is my first one so I am still kinda playing around with some of its features.. Hope it looks alright though!

I got bored with the usual RM graphics so I decided to make my own with a program called Carrara. It's alot like Daz Studio. Just take that, use a little Mode 7 and then use some shading and that's whatcha get! Look at this, this is the difference between a regular map using Mode 7 and the very same map with a fog effect and some shading on top of it.

Regular Map With Mode 7:

Same Map with some shading added to it:

Now the shaded map with a fog effect on top of it:

Oh, and I'm almost ready to have a demo set up for the game. I'm new to this site and am not really sure about how to do that... Any tips for me? I could use em.

Very impressive, I never knew you could make a 3.d game with rpg maker. I'm going to try adding mode 7 in my game so I can experiment. Man, already your games inspiring... Looks great. I'll play the demo when its out definitely. But you need to know how to make 3.d graphics to use your software right if not where can I get it or buy it if its good.
And to post a demo all you need to do is get your game in one secure file best is a zip file. Go to an upload site e.g 4 Shared, upload it, get the link and post a link anywhere on this site. Here or in the games section but it will get more response if you post it here ( on one of the forum threads )

Need a face-set or character sketch/concept P.M me. I draw mostly manga style though and it might take roughly a week

Ah, thank you! I will definately put it out on the forum when it's ready. The software I use to make the 3d character models doesnt require any 3d programming knowledge to use. In fact, I am probably least program savy person on the face of the earth. The trick is to just be extremely patient and have lots of time on your hands. Anyway, the 3D software is called Carrara 8. It's pretty expensive to buy, but you can download a free trial version at www.daz3d.com
At that website you can purchase all the resources you need for your 3d models. Also www.renderosity.com has an extensive library of resources even greater than Daz's. If you learn how to use these software's you can make some of the most cutting edge graphics to date, parrallel to the PS3 and 360. I have some examples I'll post next, and they arent even scratching the surface of the softwares' potential.

Here are those examples I was talking about in the last post. These are a character concept for the main character and some in game shots. And remember, these graphics aren't even using Carrara 8 for all it's worth. So yeah, there's lots of room for improvement!

Do you mind sharing the 3d script? like a link to a site with it. I don't think I can find it ( just find Mode 7 ). It would be cool to have semi 3d cut scenes.

Nice character by the way. reminds me a bit of lara croft ( tomb radar )

Yeah the mode 7 is all I'm using for the regular map graphics. It should still be here on this site I think. Here's the direct page URL http://www.rpg-palace.com/downloads/details.php?id=2

While I was searching for it I was seeing that there is a newer more XP compatible version out that people are also using. But some of the unintentional "flaws" to this older version actually work in my favor. Plus I have no idea how to use the newer one the right way. It seems to crash whenever a very complex event is in progress. Here's the URL to the updated version as well http://www.rpg-palace.com/downloads/details.php?id=174

I hope you have better luck with the updated version than I did. I think my machine is maybe too slow for it?

Wow, you did this all by yourself? You're pretty good.

Love the 3D images.

Alrighty, now depending on the replies I get for this post the demo may or may not be ready soon. As I've said before, I am still new with this whole game making thing. And seeing how I havent played enough demos in the past to really have my own say so in the matter I am leaving the decision up to anybody else who cares to respond to this...

Exactly how long is a good demo meant to be? I hear people complaining about demos all the time so what makes a good demo?

a demo is just only a demo.

make it as long or short as needed. the trick is you're supposed to
release a demo to give the player a taste of what's to come.

So I guess you're supposed to cut the demo on a cliffhanger and
have the player die out of curiosity until the big thing is done.

The project still lives!

That makes sense. I would say I was thinking that very thing but nobody would believe me :lol3:
Anyway, thanks for the tip! Maybe that demo will be ready sooner than I thought!
