★FF6 Party Switch★

So in final fantasy six, there was certain paces where your party would split up into 2/3 seperate parties to get through the same area and complete a common goal. In order to switch between parties, you would press select, and then you were the other guys, and so on and so forth. I want to do the same thing here, but instead of pressing a button, one party will go forth up untill a point (switch) which will allow the next party to go forth and vice versa untill the end where they reunite. How do I go about this, cause so far all my attempts have failed. If no one can help me, I have an alternative puzzle, so it's not really a high priority thing here.

The key is the Party Change event command. It's easier that you want it to happen at a set time, because letting it happen on button change would require some keypad listening and common event wizardry. All you have to do is remove every party member from the old party and add every member of the new party. If these members are always the same it's even easier. I'm not sure if you could add a member by variable, but maybe you could if the parties are not always the same (store the old party to variables, then restore them later). Just make sure that when you add and remove party members, you do NOT use the "initialize character" option; that will send them back to level 1 (or whatever they were in the database) with only their starting equipment!

Yikes, I wouldn't want that to happen. But hold up, I don't have the initialize character option (2k3). So does this mean I will lose their levels/weapons anyway, or will it still work (then again, I could always test this somehow).

You should probably test it. I don't think it would reinitialize the character, but I could be wrong.
