RPG Maker XP Netplay

Remember this? A few months ago I posted a Tech demo showcasing a VERY unstable and buggy version of the RMXP netplay scripts.

OK then, now the site and forums are back up, I thought it would be best to inform everybody about what we at Second Nature studios (formerly RPG2) have been up too.

Since that last version I showed you, we have experienced HUGE periods of seeming non-existance, forum wipes, project updates, the lot. At this minute, we are on Version 2 of the Netplay project, which is quite old now.

Version 3 is nearing release and is set to completely change the way it handles data, therefore making the system MUCH more stable than the previous versions, as well as incorporating a few features that will make small online games much easier.

Another version was released recently designed by one of the developers, who had basically souped up the current version with requested scripts, eg: Login systems and ABS support. This was nicknamed Mnetplay, but was cancelled recently as the developer decided he did not wish to continue adding more features to it (slthough he did release it in its 'final' state).

So yes, check us out. Our new site and forums are located here, along with the open source scripts:

For a guide to using the current system, and links to Mnetplay and the server files visit my guide:

Have fun!

Looks interesting. How does it actually work though? like.. for the player. Like a normal RMXP game but online with other players? does it have chat?

Yes to both of those questions.

The chat is brought up by pressing F5, and a member has also posted his own customised version which means it has a box at the bottom with chat in, like most MMORPGs.

Well, on the site, there is a link to RPGXP Steeping stones- that contains the Netplay scripts AND some maps, which is handy for testing out the functionality of the system.

UPDATE: MNetplay has been reopened. The new version of Mnetplay appears to have been worked on during this supposed "canncelation" but is a brilliant piece of work, allowing PvP and multiple connections to different IPs (some of you might not see the point, but it IS a good thing in the world of Netplay).

Problem is, it is still in beta, so you may wish to wait a week or so before using it in an actual game. Still, feel free to test it!

I know a game maker (Amaranth 0f Amaranth Games (Ahriman's Prophey and Aveyond)) who wants to go down this route eventually so its great to see projects like this up and running and refining the development. Keep up the great work.

So let me see if im understanding correctly.

If i take the game i created with RPGmaker xp and use netplay my game will become online and many users at once can be playing at one time chatting back and forth?

if so, Will I also be able to implement a trade, group adventure , etc.?

Thank you,
Chronikpain
